No I didnt....Freight costs were totally through the roof, killing the great deal I would have had on the calipers.

Ok thanks,
17" with Prado brakes looks like a great option down the track somewhere.
Will probably go DBA Slotted Rotors/Bendix/Braided Lines as an intial upgrade first as that
will be alot cheaper.
I always just wanted to be funny. I never really planned to be scary.

Do you have any 4x4 wreakers around? Maybe one in another state and get the posted to you, pretty well the only option you have!!
Just make sure you got 17" wheels...

This is the first time Ive read this thread, seeing it before I'd assumed you were changing to four wheel discs, I was a little surprised to see you're just putting a bigger disc up front and leaving the less than impressive drums alone.

Just wondering what the reasoning is, was it just to allow the use of TRD placards? is there some reason the drums aren't being replaced as well?

Also, if wanting to stick with 16", can 90 series discs be used? or are they the same size as your stock discs?

I'm just compiling ideas for when I get myself a lux, and experience has left me with an unwavering choice in tyres, which unfortunately only comes in 33" on a 16" rim, smallest 17" is 35"OD :( So I'd much rather put discs on the back with braided lines all round to bring the braking performance back up.

Taresk,

Fitting Prado120 front discs and calipers improves braking heaps on a hilux without having to touch the rear drums and brake booster.

Rear drums are better beleive it or not when the rear has a load in it. Which is what the reard rum design on a hilux is made for.

If changing to rear discs you have to change the booster and this all adds up to alot of $$$$

The hilux is lighter than the Prado120 especially over the rear axle when empty so in almost all cases I dont think rear discs are necessary.

If ever gotten the opportunity to drive a standard hilux (with 15" wheels and brakes) and then a TRD hilux you will see and appreciate the difference it makes. Also note that almost all the braking is done by the front discs anyway.

Ok, that makes sense, guess I'll just have to rethink my tyre options...

I miss the days when you didn't have to plan everything according to what can be engineered :(

Here a linky as a sample -http://www.mudah.my/Brake+kit+for+toyota+fortuner+and+hilux-16326465.htm

Image
Excellent braking power, solves ABS premature activation and disc warping/ overheat under heavy use. Original KIT by TRD sportivo. Plug and play, no modification necessary.

Brake kit comes with:
1) Toyota OEM disc brakes 320mm (vs 295mm standard- can fit into 16"rims)
2) Toyota OEM by TRD 4 POT performance calipers

NimrodAUS...

I believe your hilux is fitted with the Toyota Fortuner / FJ Cruiser Brake Caliper which are 319mm in diameter..

Okay sweet. Well all I can tell you is they work well. They feel right. Example. Driving older work hilux's around all day 2006-2010 models then jumping in mine to drive home I nearly put myself through the windscreen first time I brake lol. That's the difference.

They will fit a 16" rim but only some makes.

Hilux and FJ both use 319mm rotors, procomp alloys in 16" fit over them.

Theres some other 16" alloys and steelies Monster Rides is looking into that will fit over them.

Read back through this thread, i thought someone put 150's in his by accident and they seemed to fit but I may be misinformed. Mine are 120's as are most others and they work WELL

That was me mate. I had it ass about. I've got 120 series when I thought I had 150's. To my knowledge the only difference between the two are the 150's having a 32mm thick rotor whereas the 120's are 28mm. Same diameter though at 338mm.
