What year Hilux would a 1995 motor, suspension, exhaust fit?

Postby ABC12345 on Sat, 07 Dec 2019 7:42 +0000

So long story short, I built a Hilux motorhome over a few years, and decided to rent it out on a motorhome website. The people who rented it booked it for 71 days, flew to Australia from Canada on their dream holiday, we did the hand over, and they literally got 500m down the road from my house to a round about and managed to try and turn right from the outside left lane, cleaned up a car on the inside right lane and rolled the car writing it off. Not ideal

So now I have the situation where I have all the camping gear, rooftop cabin, water tank, cooker, engel etc, but no car. Ideally I would like to find another 1995 hilux in decent condition because the motor from my car is in amazing condition, the suspension and exhaust system is only 6 months old, everything is great. But because the roof was damaged, insurance wrote the car off.

My reason for posting is, do any Hilux enthusiasts know what year hiluxs would be suitable? Would my 2.8L turbo diesel motor from my dual cab LN106R, suspension, exhaust, even interior fit into the body of a 1993 model? 1997? 1998?

Any advice much appreciated. I am having trouble finding a suitable 1995 body in my state.

Thanks

Is it written off as in never to be re-registered? You could buy a 2WD one and swap the chassis over if the VIN isn’t a stat write off.
Otherwise I think you want a 2.8L Hilux. They change to 3.0L from memory in 1998 model release about October 1997. Not sure how much changes with the 3.0L model release. From memory the 2.8L was released around 1988.

Correct, written off to never be re-registered again unless I repair it and get it approved through SA transport which from what I have read is a huge risk as I could spend loads of money and then the car may fail the tests.

Thanks for the information though, much help
