BCDC 1225D Bracket

BCDC 1225D Bracket

Postby BCH on Sat, 18 May 2019 2:48 +0000

I am looking for a supplier of a bracket to mount a Redarc BCDC unit between the grill & radiator (passenger side) on a 2007 Hilux D4D. Has anyone come across such a bracket? I am not a good metal fabricator. Searches don't seem to give me a result for this.

If I read your post correctly, I question the location. BCDC needs to be mounted in a safe dry location.

Fair enough I stand corrected, would make sure all wiring joints are protected from water ingress. Sorry can't help with the bracket.

I know 15+ has a bracket from long ranger and ARB
BUT 05-16 I’m outta luck. I would have to look at it and see if any of the ones out there could be modded to fit.

Honestly a flat plate of steel drill 4 holes to mount the bcdc and pick up two factory points can’t hurt if you find a 3rd can’t go wrong.

Go ask at a computer repair shop. Older desktops have hdd fittings etc that could easily be modified. All of my brackets except my secondary fuel filter have just been computer brackets drilled, painted and occasionally trimmed to size.

This is a photo of the bracket that I got custom fabricated, it bolts to the auxiliary fuel filter.

A very neat job, but I am trying to instal outside the engine bay to reduce heat degradation.

BCH, when we first installed the system I was in Tasmania so heat wasn’t a problem; but since then we have lived in Darwin and currently live in Kalgoorlie (as you do I see) and have travelled extensively throughout WA and the NT. We have never had a problem which would indicate that heat was a problem, even though as you have highlighted it is not ideal. When we were in Darwin ARB wanted to move it to the front of the engine bay, near the radiator.

Yes, small world. I am going to try for a behind grill install, for the best possible cooling. Cheers

I have used a beacon bracket and mounted it exactly where you want to mount it

The Long Ranger is suggesting they have a part that will fit, but I am waiting to see a pic.

Finally found a KUN26 vehicle specific, ready-made bolt-in bracket from Long Ranger (through Out of Town 4WD) for $55 plus postage. Far better than I could make. There are no pics on anyone's website and it is hard to find.

I read this topic a couple of months ago when I started buying the bits to install the 1225d charger. I went everywhere to find the Longranger bracket but they're no longer available, according to all the sites that I contacted. Redarc even sold these at one time. They still have a picture of it if anyone needs to get an idea of how it looks. I ended up making my own, based on the Longranger unit, but fabricated it so that it mounted a little further to the passenger side of the radiator so that it didn't obstruct as much of the radiator as the Longranger bracket. I installed a nutsert near the headlight to fully secure the right hand side of the bracket, as well as at the bottom. The foot at the bottom of the bracket could've been made longer to take advantage of the existing bolt, but I chose not to.
There's a chap in Mayfield West NSW (Kurt Sander Mobile Auto Electrician) who sells fully prepared wiring kits (including charger and bracket) but I don't know where he gets his bracket from. He can be found on Gumtree & Ebay, but the kits on Ebay are dearer.
I don't know why Longranger or Redarc don't make the bracket any more. There's still plenty of guys looking to buy.
