Injector service added to service manual

Postby dhegvold on Mon, 01 Jul 2013 7:34 +0000

Just dropped my 09 SR5 into Toyota dealer this morning for standard 90K service (oil change, checks etc). Was quoted $220 bucks.

An hour after dropping it in, they called me and said they recommended a service on the injectors and was going to be additional $198. They said its a new thing Toyota have introduced for every 30,000k's and has been added to Hilux service manual due to number of injector issues they have had. I agreed to it as i've heard horror stories about injectors, dirty fuel etc.

anyone else been told this by dealers?

Which dealer is that?

The injector seal and oring are meant to be done when the tappets are checked every 40 000km. So they have been in the service book like forever. But no one wanted to go to that expense after the first one 40000 (service advantage) as it was an extra cost. At 80 000.

You can check the tappets without removing the injectors. But if you have to adjust you have to then remove the injectors to remove the cams and replace the buckets.

I have done both of my utes. Seals and orings.
And check tappets every 40 000.
Have not had to adjust yet all within spec!

The guy said they disconnect the fuel system from the car and hook the car up to their injector cleaning system. They leave the engine running for a while and pump through some sort of cleaner. I guess its the same as adding injector cleaner to your fuel?

Probably got ripped off now i think about it!

Price sounds a little high, but they were trying to sell me the same thing when I had my injectors changed and was trying to have them coded. They couldn't code them, but wanted to flush them. I laughed and took my car back.

It is however supposed to be like the latest and greatest thing. It is basically a Toyota approved injector cleaner that is supposed to clean better due to the direct application.

Over here in NZ Toyota recommend that the injector seats are replaced every 45000 km unless you have the latest model which has different injectors and seats and these seats don't need replacing. The owners manual for my new truck also came with a Toyota brochure that advertised "Toyota Genuine Diesel Injector Cleaner" that they recommend using this every 45000km also.
Cheers.

]I am going through the dreaded injector problems with my 2005+ model and may need replacement, and hear that the cost of the genuine toyoat injectors are way cheaper in NZ than in Australia which is close to $700 each![/url]
