second fuel filter

Postby Swinder on Wed, 05 Sep 2012 5:56 +0000

G'day
Just wondering
I've just installed a second fuel filter to prevent any contamination with water or alge in fuel
Does anyone Know if this puts stress on the fuel pump
Because it has to draw fuel through 2 filters :?:

id rather replace fuel pump anyday over injectors
shouldnt put enough stress on the pump to cause damage they usually fail when run dry, not under load.

I fitted a second "Rayco" filter to mine about 5000km ago. Also have an inline filter on the tank exit, and an inline 12 volt priming pump. Absolutely no ill effects.

Not if you get your micron right for the first filter assembly, the secondary filter assembly.
30 micron, or 10 micron. Do not use 2 micron filters in a secondary filter assembly set up.
The 2 micron filter assembly is for a primary set up.
The genuine filter is between 5 and 7 micron.

I run a 2 micron secondary (final) filter and never had an issue, recently replaced at 20,000km service.

As you can see ,I ended up making a bracket off the second battery.
I'm very happy how it preforms.
It a 30 micron

has anybody actually removed their Toyota filter altogether?

I'm thinking Water Watch + after market filter would be far superior, so you could get rid of the Toyota

Packeteer the advantage of using the Toyota filter is that they are available at just about every roadhouse servo. My wife picked up a tankful of dirty fuel on a trip up Cape York last year and went through 6 filters before it was cleared so even carrying a couple of spares would not have helped. I am not so sure that aftermarket filters would be so readily available.

Yeah can't see any upside in doing that, If you want more filtration why not fit the FM100 (Stanadyne) system which is the same as a Water watch but with an additional filter 30 um or 5 um. That is what I have set up as a prefilter with the 30 um cartridge
On the internet you can be anything you want. It is strange that so many people choose to be stupid!
