15x8 Steel wheels that fit!

Postby Hilux Max on Mon, 21 Jun 2010 10:40 +0000

Guys,

thanks to fellow newhilux member rn41leroy, who purchased a set of 15x8 steel wheels and says they fit, I did some further investigation for the fellow newhilux members that may be interested in this option and heres what the verdict is.

http://www.infinitywheel.com.au

.pdf file of steel wheel range - http://www.infinitywheel.com/pdf/Infinity_Catalogue_Web.pdf

Infinity wheels Sells 15x8 steel wheels that fit on the 05+ model hilux's and clears the front brakes.....I sent them an email very early this mornign and here is the reply I got from them -

DEAR MAX,

THANKYOU FOR YOUR ENQUIRY REGARDING 15X8 WHEELS AND THEIR SUITABILTY FOR HILUX 05 ONWARDS.

YOUR FREIND IS CORRECT OUR 15X8 ZERO OFFSET WILL FIT THE LATEST HILUX. THE REASON NO ONE ELSE DOES IS BECAUSE OUR CENTRES ARE J CENTRES.THEY HAVE A LARGER DIAMETRE THROUGH THE CENTRE. THIS ENABLES OUR WHEEL TO ESCAPE THE CALIPER ON THE FRONT AND CLEAR THE REAR BRAKE DRUM. IN FACT ALL OUR WHEELS REGARDLESS OF SIZE IE. 15X7, 15X8,16X7,16X8 WILL FIT THIS VEHICLE WITHOUT HITTING THE CALIPER. YOU MUST REMEMBER HOWEVER, THAT UNLESS IT HAS FLARES LIKE THE SR5 SOME OF THESE WHEELS WILL HANG OUT THE GAURDS, INCLUDING THE ONE YOU ASK ABOUT. IF YOU DO NOT HAVE FLARES THEY WILL HANG OUT. THERE IS ALSO THE QUESTION OF LEGALITY.IN OUR RANGE,ONLY WHEELS WITH A OFFSET OF POSITIVE 30 ON SR ,AND WHEELS OF POSITIVE 13 ON THE SR5 WILL BE TECHNICALLY LEGAL AS YOU CAN ONLY INCREASE THE TRACK BY 26MM ON VEHICLES WITH INDEPENDENT SUSPENSION.YOU AND I BOTH KNOW THAT 90% OF THE 4X4S OUT THERE ARE TECHNICALLY ILLEGAL, THAT DOES NOT STOP THE GENERAL PUBLIC FROM PUTTING THEM ON THEIR VEHICLES.

AS FAR AS HOW MUCH. MAX WE ARE WHOLESALERS NOT RETAILERS.IF YOU LET ME KNOW WHERE YOU LIVE I CAN CERTAINLY POINT YOU TO A TYRE RETAILER WHO CAN SELL YOU THE WHEELS. YOU SAY YOUR FREIND PURCHASED HIS WHEELS FROM US? IF THAT IS THE CASE HE MUST HAVE BOUGHT THEM FROM OUR ONLY RETAIL STORE WHICH IS AT CABOOLTURE.

So if you need a set, and these are 15x8 in a zero offset, hit up your local tyre retailer to order you a set from Infinity Wheels. As a second set 33/12.5x15's would look great on a new lux or even 35/10.5x15's.....

Thanks for this Mmaaxx and rn41leroy.
This opens up a few more wheel options. Will sticky this one into the tyre forum for those who want to explore this option.
Cheers

Just a question, by how much should the rims clear the brakes? I have roh steel 15x8 rims with a zero offset which only clear the brakes by a bee's willy, extremely close and sometimes I wonder if they will flex slightly under pressure and cause damage?

Do they come in chrome?..........would make for some cheap bling wheels on the sr5 models,ie match door handles and side mirrors.

I do like the look of the brumby chromes 8-)

As it happens, the good wife managed to get the ute into a 4 wheel slide yesterday going around a corner we do everyday. I now have orders to get some new rubber :D :P :D

I'm currently using 90 series prado rims and 265/75/16 BFG M/T's. These might be a better solution....

Sorry Max you might have to wait a little while.

As I said above I usually run 90 series prado steelies and 265/75/16 BFG M/T's. I still have the SR5 rima and they currently have 31x10.5 MT/Rs fitted. I changed over the rims yesterday, and then spend today doing some fire trails in Tallaganda National Park. The MT/R's went very well... it's the first time I have had them off road. They are much softer than the BFG's.
The MT/Rs have done about 12K and have 8mm of tread left. The BFG M/T's have done around 70K and have 10mm still left!! The only reason the BFG's are going is they are about 6 yrs old and are out of round..... oh and they slide out around corners ;)

Speaking to Matt from MR and the local tyre guy on friday, I've decided to keep the MT/R's on the 15's for now and replace the 16's with Maxxis Bighorn's. I'll leave the 15's on for a while and wear the MT/R's out. Then I might be able to convince the minister for finance to get some new steelies and 33's.

Sorry Max :(

Speaking of these wheels and tyres
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/MAXXIS-BIGHORN-3 ... 23081c2b19

I can get them from Bega to Canberra if anyone decides to grab these, might be cheaper freight.

I'd grab them but I only have a 1.5- 2" lift on the front so these will rub bad for me.
