G'day all,Well heres an update on me rig. I picked her up from the dealer yesterday, fitted with the colour coded grill and a safari snorkel. Heres a pic of her below -
Image
Now the good part......Those BLING rims came in yesterday arvo too, just before I picked her up. Today I went to my neighbour Rob's business after work. He owns The Suspension Centre in Kealba, Melbourne.Well while there, his mate, who owns a tyre shop 2 shops down rocked up with his hilux Sr5, same colour as mine and had a 3" front lift fitted to the front so he can run 22" rims on it. The tyres on the rims are equivalent to 33" in diameter and 12.5" wide on 22's. He just removed the mudflaps. Heres a pic of it - Im going to get this kit fitted to my Hilux, 3" on the front. But I will get 3.5" lifted on the rear so the back of mine will be higher than the pic above by that much. The kit uses specially designed foam cell struts and matching foam cell shocks on the rear. They reckon the hilux's handle awesome and flat around corners on the road and give very good travel off it. Only time will tell I guess. The tuffest new shape hilux around has to be Robs partners truck - It is their devopment vehicle. He runs 4" front lift, and 4.5" rear lift, with 16x8 sunraysias with a "custom" offset coz they cut out the centre and rewelded it to suit, which by chance happens to be the same offset as the BLING rims I bought....YEEEAAAHHH!His Hilux is running 305/75x16's with no rubbing what-so-ever and tyres sit within the guards. This week they will be trialling a new design of adjustable height struts on his car. Heres a pic, I know you's are dying to see it - So this time next week, I'll be so excited over me hilux, my missus will be jelous!!!!8-)

I would be asking how much caster they are getting when they do a wheel alinement.
Mine is 0 and thats all they could get unless I wanted to go negative camber and chop tyres.

Cheers

spoke to him again just before. that black sr5 he brought home, and the wheel alignment, he didnt have any problems with. doesnt pull to any side, stays straight ahead.

And I gotta make a correction, that lift is a 5" not a 4" lift that the sr6 has, He is fitting spacers under the upper control arm to move it further from the struts and allow more down travel when offroading.

I know its hard to beleive wihtout seeing it in person but the lift setup is really good.

Caster has nothing to do with pulling side to side. Its more to do with the car wandering all over the place.
May not worry you but I wouldn`t want to be running negative caster.

I would'nt think there's any way to adjust the castor on the Hilux unless you can pull the whole front end forward and for neg camber you'll run out of adjustment very quikly when you raise your truck. anyone looked into how to get some more neg camber? I went to a wheel alignment shop to talk about this issue and got into an argument because he was pissed off with me from buying my suspension somewhere else, he said I'll give you more neg camber but would'nt tell me how, when pressure he said he was going to lower it, I said get niked, he said book it in and I'll fix it for you.

I was told they have caster ajustment which is enough until you lift them and then you quickly run out. Neg camber is ajustable but will chop tyres in no time. It maybe all BS as it was arb that told me this

Best car I've had was 2.5 degree negative camber, it turned into a corner like you wound'nt beleive, the extra tyre wear is worth it.

Yep with you there, I have had lots of cars running neg camber and were good. But arb says hilux chop tyres really badly with neg camber don`t know why would be any different to any other 4b

G'day all,

Just to add abit more to my buildup. Went today to get my Maxxis Bighorns fitted to my rims and was told they couldnt get them until later next month, so he ordered in some Maxxis Buckshots in just incase I wanted them. So I took them and he fitted the tyres to the rims. I then took em 2 shops down to me mates suspension business and left them there till friday when he'll fit them after lifted me truck a coupla inches.

Hopefully Opposite Lock comes through in the meantime with my colour coded flares aswell.

Well, heres a couple of pics of the tyre/wheel combo in the back of the tub and resting against me hilux.

I went 285/75x16

yeah, will do mate. check back here friday night where I wil have pics of the suspension lift fitted and the wheel/tyres on the vehicle.

Unfortunately, I cannot get the flares fitted till monday or tuesday, so then again Ill post some updates.

Heres a poll question for you all - i need advice. what would you spend a spare 13-1400 bux on in my situation?
A) a bullbar of some sort
B) DP-Chip to compensate for the loos of power from the tyres.

and why?

Thanks guys ;)

I'd go the chip first then bar.

Why? - Because the you may already lose a bit of pwr from those tyres and then if you add the extra weight of the bar on it'll be even worse!! Go the chip then the bar I reckon!!

Also, if you have the cash to get the chip, do that first then go driving around dusk with the missus and when you just miss a roo (after you have been actually unbeknown to her, looking for one ) say to her, 'Geez mate I really should get a bullbar on this thing before I do some big $ damage' , she'll agree and want you to do it straight away.

Easier to do that than trying to justify the expenditure of a chip a few mths down the track!!

Hell, I haven't been married for 10 yrs yet and I'm already thinking this stuff up.....Hate to see my form after 25 yrs of marriage!! ;)

Cheers, Broke

Mmaaxx, what sort of rims are they? That is a great mongrel looking wheel / tyre combination that you have.
Shaping up to be a good looking unit
On the internet you can be anything you want. It is strange that so many people choose to be stupid!
