High Kms

Postby Tommyh on Sun, 09 Jan 2022 2:16 +0000

My 2017 SR5 just ticked over 180,000 kms.
Has been pretty problem free so far. Is this high kms for these newer Hilux’s? Not sure about these new ones and wondering if I should hold onto it or upgrade.

If it has been serviced and looked after I would be looking to a lot more km out of any car

There are plenty around with much higher km than that. They are solid vehicles.

The only problem I see is they get harder to sell as they get older... but in the current market you still get a good return. Who knows how long this will last.
I might be wrong.

I sold my old Pajero with 487,000km. Original engine and gearbox. A well looked after car will go for a long time.

I have been thinking the same 2013 SR5 113000km so far, but i guess i have awhile before i upgrade.
But if you keep up wit the services and look after it you shouldnt have any problems.
My old AU Falcon is currently sitiing on 550000KM and going strong :D

My 2009 SR5 has 359,000 and is still going strong. No major issues with only routine maintenance to date.

Yep thats all nice, but when it comes time to sell, who is going to trust you about the service history and that it will last a few more years without anything big failing.

My point is its a much smaller pool of people who are willing to part with their $$$ for high km vehicles.

I think when you get to high mileage it's better to just nurse it along and get your money's worth... It does give us hope when you see another high mileage Hilux, just dispels the myths about engine vulnerability... I would argue many failures don't tell the whole story... What was being done and was the Hilux abused? When a vehicle gets lots of use it does last better than one which isn't used a lot. Taxis are a good example, always running and last forever. ;)
You still got yours hiluxxury?
Cheers Gipsy :D although I'm sure somebody will challenge that  even Einstein wasn't certain of his theories.

I sold it.

It had 350000km on it and while it could certainly have gone for much further, it was suffering from too much time in the deserts - not to mention that the seats were sagging which really annoyed me (noting that good 2nd replacements are less than $300 on ebay).

It took a while to sell and a fair bit of work with the rattle can for aesthetics. Got more than what it was worth in the end.

Always nice to get more than you expect when selling :D I never seem to get what my old vehicle is worth but someone else always gets a bargain when they buy my old one. My LandCruiser with 350ks returned $10k to me and the dealer sold it that day without even detailing it :o ... New owner paid $17k and turned up on my doorstep asking why it was in such good condition. now I wish I kept it as a good off-road vehicle.
