Suspension Installation scratches

Postby jawahar01 on Mon, 22 Feb 2021 8:32 +0000

Hey guys,

I have just had a 2 inch Tough Dog Adjustable suspension kit to my n80 Hilux. When i went to pick up the car from the 4x4 shop, i noticed some scratches and markings on the suspension. Just wanted to know if this is normal ?

Your feedback is much appreciated

I imagine these would have been caused by using spring compressors. Wether it's normal or not I would say will depend on the individual.

Bro don't come over here and start judging without knowing or reading about what's going on. Where does it say i'm worried about getting my car scratched? When you spend bulk money on a good kit you expect it to be done right. I just didn't know if this was normal as i haven't got anything like this done before. That is why i asked on here. If you're not going to be helpful then don't reply to the post.

Yeah ok, enough of that.

The struts aren't the easiest things to install and the spring compressors can sometimes leave marks. When navigating the strut up through the UCA and other parts to get them in there, sometimes you scratch them.

I doubt they would have wrapped them in cotton wool but experienced/careful people can do better. Up to you how you respond to the situation.
I might be wrong.

their spring compresses didn't fit the springs well the joys of being a workshop wasting money on tools we probably have 1/2 a dozen different set of compressors for this reason it wont matter in the hour of time.
its not going to work any better or worse.

hey Jawahar01, i feel your pain/frustration.
i wasn't impressed when i got by bp51's installed, one of them had a 4cm scratch on the shock body... it wouldn't be acceptable if my new car came with scratches... why should it be any different when i drop 5k on suspension. Apparently it is acceptable (i asked ARB about the scratch and they basically just said yeah sorry its scratched).

i can understand marks on the coils as they are trying to wrangle the new part back into the space, but it leaves a bitter taste in your mouth when you spend your hard earned dollars and its not even shiny and new to begin with (regardless if it will stay that way for long or not).

Hey Guys

Thanks for your input on this, its not that i am too fussed regarding the scratches, it was just that this 4x4 shop has put me through a lot of trouble getting this work done. The work was to basically get a 2 inch lift and to fit Method 305's with 32 BF Goodrich KO2's totaling over 6k. The wheels and tyres were delayed by 2 months and when this suspension was fitted they told me that they couldn't get the alignment done for me as their alignment machine was broken and that i had to get it done my self from an outside wheel alignment shop. On top of that the front Right shock absorber adjustment knob wasn't letting me adjust to a harder setting and would keep backing out by it self. I do understand that products can be defective but their attitude regarding fixing the issue was less than polite.

The scratches were just an added thing that pushed my patience with this place.

Safe to say we wont be going back to this place for further work.

You can get a $20 spring compressor and a $500 spring compressor. They obviously have the $20 job.
If they take that little care in the installation it makes you wonder what else they skipped on!!!!!

Fair enough, it's these kind of experiences that make me glad I can do all my work myself.
