Any mods like big tyres or aftermarket brake parts?
I might be wrong.

Hi I ajusted the brakes till wheels only turn about 3/4 turn. Ajusted lever brake bar till nut was at the end of thread. Reajusted hand brake and hand brake works on about 7 to 9 clicks depending on type of hill does this sound about right?

have you tried to apply the handbrake on a level dirt road to see if the brakes lock up equally (if at all)?

Heaps of hilux owners have this issue though, here is one example

Hi Geoff, when you talk about adjusting the lever brake bar, is this under the vehicle or inside the cabin? If inside the cabin, how did you get to it without removing the centre console?

the joys of drum brakes what an improvement on the ole 90 series lol, adjust the hand brake by winding the brake shoes closer to the drums thru the slots in the backing plates of the rear drums there should be grommets in the slots.

I've had a rear disc conversion and transfer case mounted disc handbrake kit from Boosted and Built Garage for a few months (onto a 2006 Hilux) love no constant brake adjustment, much better pedal feel and a handbrake that works. Also this hilux lived in NT and Northern WA for a couple of seasons and would regularly shake the rear brakes to bits on the corrugations - pleased to be away from that as well.

Benneta, I have the same conversion, but haven't got around to fitting the rear discs yet. However I have done the handbrake and it works extremely well. I recon no more than 5 clicks and there is no way the car will move even on a steep hill. Best mod so far and can't wait to get some time to do the rear discs. Just a question if I may - did you have to change the master cylinder when you had yours done?

Cheers,

Hi All,

Doing my brake pads at the moment and I’ve scoured this and other sites heavily and found no reference to part numbers for pads. I’m not sure whether I need DB1482 or DB2221.
It’s a 2014 SR5 Dual Cab.
When searching pads I get the following:
- DB1482 - 318mm with VSC (I think this one)
- DB1739 - without VSC (not this one)
- DB2221 - 2011 on (could it be this one?)

Any help is much appreciated.

Cheers

In the catalogue you're searching there should be "something" to differentiate between the two part numbers. It could be something to do with the vehicle, like the rotor size, 2WD Vs 4WD, or it could be to do with the pads themselves, like one model comes with retaining clips and the other doesn't. Once you find this particular delineator then everything else should just fall into place.

Thanks Rob, that’s what I would have thought too, but I’ve searched it to death with no total confidence in the one part.
All good, I’ll have to check them out when I get back home, I just wanted to have them ordered and waiting for me. I was hoping someone may have had a number handy.

If it's 2014 sr5 then it's 318mm

Your retailer / supplier should be able to order you the right part if you've got all the details to give to them. I know a couple of times over the years I've been like "Hang on a minute mate, I'll walk out side and check the compliance plate" but I don't recall doing that for brake pads.

Personal choice, I only go Bendix for brake pads. Not something I wanna scrimp on for a few pennies.

Mate, put your vin into something like partsouq.com and then cross-ref the genuine part number.
I might be wrong.

Hi All,

Just a follow up.
Thanks for the help from those above.
It seems it doesn’t which search engine/parts retailer you search they all have the same three potential matches.
I just got under and measured my pads up when I was home.
Mine are the DB1482 part.
If anyone else has a 2014 SR5 diesel, dual cab, auto, 4WD, maybe this will help.

Cheers,
