Pull them out and see if something comes out. Might be a weld dag broken off and ended up in the cat.

I fitted a full Beaudesert system to mine, Pacemaker extractors back in 2.75” system. This was on prior to supercharging it. Needed little devices to move the rear O2 sensors away from the flow plus an XEDE piggyback processor. Without both it threw O2 sensor codes. I had the XEDE first, and it threw coded so I fitted the little muffler thingys that space the the O2 sensors.

They sound like cr@p though, even worse sound than that stupid diesel turbo noise, or a Subaru flat engine. Go looking at the thread here about using Tacoma manifolds and get an exhaust shop to make up a system and fit aftermarket cats.

I'm a bit time poor and am certain that its the cat internal has broken even though its not throwing a code yet .Did you go the long or short extractors and did they use a resonator after the muffler or two after each cat.Just trying to get it right the first go

They are short with cats in front of resonators from memory. One of the resonators rattled though, replaced both. When you supercharge them they turn the resonators around as the blower snots them.

No matter what you do with a V6 with extractors, they sound dreadful. I just put up with it, does sound slightly better with the supercharger but there is no alternative for me, I’d still rather the horrid noise than suffer a little diesel.

Oh HK1837, the 4 pot oil burner isn't that bad. At least it doesn't sound like a ranger.

How about you drop an LS in yours and give yourself a new set of problems to whinge about

Not whinging, just letting the OP know what he’s in for with extractors on a V6. Wet fart exhaust noise.

To be honest I haven’t heard a Ranger make those awful diesel duck-whistle noises on gear changes, mostly seems to be Nissans and Hiluxes.

I had an auto XLT Ranger for 3 weeks and 1000’s of kM all over NZ South Island in February. I could easily live with it around town, but out on the open road no thanks, bloody dangerous when you hit the torque cliff trying to overtake Asians in campers doing 60 in 90 zones! Towing it would be a nightmare.

Mine is too old and too many kM to convert to an LS now. It would be at least a $30k conversion to put an LS3 or LSA in it, not worth it on a 10 year old (next year), 160k car.

Haha just trolling you mate.

The 5cyl diesel in my volvo sounds like a wet fart with solids much like a ranger but over on the volvo forum they love the sound of it. I can't work it out - each to their own I guess.

The exhaust on my hilux is stock, so I don't hear any turbo or other noises. Overtaking other vehicles isn't something I need to consider in my lux, it simply ain't going to happen.

I just paid $400 to replace the two cats on my v6. That’s just labour, I already had the cats from another project. The exhaust wasn’t standard but, it’s twin 2 1/2 into a 3”. $1000 sounds a bit steep, I’d take the opportunity to do the whole exhaust. Just make sure you’ve got a good sound system to drown out the drone!
The more fuel I use, the more fun I have!
