2005 KUN26R What Draws Current With Ignition OFF

2005 KUN26R What Draws Current With Ignition OFF

Postby Gravy72 on Mon, 06 Jul 2020 8:10 +0000

When I connect the alternator loom terminal to battery positive I am seeing that this circuit is drawing current because there is arcing when I connect this wire. I have not measured the amps being drawn I will measure it tomorrow.

Appreciate any advice as where should I be looking to rectify the problem? With all connections to my dual battery disconnected the fault still exists.

Thx

Measured current draw and it was 500mA, this in my mind is excessive. Has anyone got figures to make a comparison.

Thinking of investing in a battery kill switch as with the current epidemic, vehicle is spending a lot of time in the shed.

Don't waste your money and time on a kill-switch, buy a good battery charger and keep it charged when the truck is laid up in the shed. All modern vehicles use some power when shut down, as above... Security, etc.
Mine sits for months in the shed so a good charge every now and then is best.

Electrical gremlins resolved, very vague as to how perhaps a function of the vehicle not being locked. Current draw now stable at 7mA after a period of 30 seconds from when connections are made to battery positive terminal.
Thanks for the replies. :?

Interesting, I leave mine unlocked for 2 months and it is still able to start, forgot to charge the battery once but it still held charge.

Every electronic box in the car has filter capacitors that will take a wile to charge once being disconnected for a while hence the spark on first connection. If you quickly lift the terminal and replace it there will be very little spark as the caps dont have time to discharge.
