starter relay keeps blowing

Yes I get the bored syndrome too, the wheels have fallen off the van so I'm stuck at home watching the 24/7 news cycle
I understand what you are saying about the cheap imports but as an aircraft engineer I wouldn't use one. The OP wanted a fix and didn't seem to want an expensive one so I chimed in. I think you did agree that the cost of stripping one down was more expensive due to labour costs so I offered the fix that I did.
Cheers Gipsy :D although I'm sure somebody will challenge that  even Einstein wasn't certain of his theories.

Yep understand where your coming from, and those starters are only a 5 minute job to change out if they dont last.
Cheap stuff is hard to resist though, human nature. I have been stung buying cheap stuff before, even tell myself not to but things are so cheap.
I had a new alternator fail on my last bush trip that was only 10k old and it was a reputable brand. Just bad luck. Only fitted it cause I thought 200k was a fair sort of crack out of the original one.

They just don't make stuff like they used to  we have certainly become a consumer society where nothing is worth fixing anymore. Just use it and Chuck it seems the go these days.

The Hilux is 2 wheel drive and I only use it for driving around the Cairns suburbs and highways - I don't take it to remote places.

I bought a new starter motor on ebay for $114. The only downside is it took 10 days to be shipped to Cairns.
Now the Hilux starts every time. If this "cheapy" starter motor fails in a couple of years, I will just purchase another.

Thank you very much to everyone who posted comments.

Cheers, Joe.

Good to hear you are mobile again Jomo. The old one is worth hanging on to and maybe get it overhauled later.
