Heater Blower Fan Squeak

Heater Blower Fan Squeak

Postby fark on Fri, 13 Jul 2018 8:54 +0000

Just because it annoys the fark out of me, my blower fan is being replaced under warranty. It makes a slight squeal squeaking noise on low speed - so if everything is quiet in the car you can hear it, and if you are like me with OCD with rattles and squeaks you go nuts...

Yeah yeah, I know, turn the tunes up...

Glad to hear a replacement is issued. Mine is also the same and driving me nuts. Did you have to push hard for a replacement mate?

No problem with the dealer at all - even though it didn't really make the noise at the time when i dropped it off. It is due to be changed on the next service - but I don't think I can wait that long :D

TBH, the inside cabin noise is very quiet, so any little rattle or squeak is noticed - but I end up turning the fan off as it hits a nerve for me.

my 2017 model has started doing this between the last service and now. I have my 30,000km service booked for tonight and hope they will replace the unit instead of greasing it as the high pitched bearing screech is annoying AF

I know this is an old thread, but did anyone get a solution to this? I have had my fan replaced, and it started up again. I am now hoping they didn't just put some lube in it, and say they changed it.

I reckon it's the bearing, as mine changes pitch when going around corners. It happens on lower fan speeds.

They just replaced mine for the second time. I was told that first replacement batch was faulty as well.
Insist they replace it again. I have not had any issues since.

Good to hear. So did they acknowledge there is a fault? I will be calling in tomorrow now. I had a WOF done about a month ago, and asked them to look at it again while hey had it, and they said they ran out of time to look at it. I hate it when dealers brush you off.

Progress. I called in today, and it's booked in for a new generation fan without high pitched noise.
It was explained that the noise is from the brushes. The original ones were 90 deg to the shaft and caused a high pitched noise, so they solved it by putting the brushes at an angle.

After all that time finally fixed.

Also what I found interesting was it was more noisier during the warm days with just fan on (no aircon).
As soon as I put aircon on, the noise would go away with cold air coming through. Switch the aircon off (leave just fan on) and noise was back in a few minutes.

I'm the same Fellas, mines a 2012 build so looks like I'll be stumping up the coin for a new one. Has anyone had luck with non-genuine, or is not worth the headache.

Mine has been squealing since the last service. I have been putting up with it until the next service, which is due now.

As Allords said, it only seems to be when the fan is running slow.

Looks like I will insist that they replace the fan.....

Don't know if this is a cure, or just a temporary fluke.
I changed out the cabin filter 2 days ago. It was filthy

BUT......The squeak has gone

Had the same issue, was replaced no questions asked under warranty. They didn't even have the car when they told me they would replace it!
