Berrima chip

Postby feralbass on Sat, 23 May 2020 11:00 +0000

Hi folks
I'm looking a buying a used Berrima chip, approx 1 year old for my 2014 hilux
I have a couple of questions and hoping for advice
They say it is plug and play; is this really the case (I am looking at better towing performance)?
Is $800.00 a fair price?
Cheers John :D

Yeah they are plug and play. $800 is a lot of coin for a chip thst only does rail pressure - its a very crude method of increasing power. IMO talk to a tuner.
I might be wrong.

Berrima would tell you they're great, but of course they would. Try getting in touch with chip tuning in Sydney, they have a range of different chips and tunes. Or look for a good ECU remap, wouldn't cost much more than$800 and they can switch off the EGR. Mine has a chip-it and it's good, despite what some here might think (and say!). Its plug and play and is a mild tune and has a dump-pipe temperature probe which can be set to turn off if the temps rise. Cost about $1000 new but there's some competitors now.
Btw, I tow 2.5 tonne caravan everywhere the Hilux goes. (I have a couple of other cars so the lux is in the shed until we travel again)
If you're is a late 2014 it may have the revised pistons so shouldn't be so fragile. (Post July 2014)
Cheers Gipsy :D although I'm sure somebody will challenge that  even Einstein wasn't certain of his theories.
