as per my signature, I installed heaps of accessories and have lift kit, bulbar, winch etc, my fuel figures are more around 10.8 to 11.7 (real life - not car computer)

I find it hard to believe hilux n80 would use 7l per 100km, even with no accessories

My figures are calculated from fuel fills and mileage driven and have been very consistent. It's a manual SCC with a bull bar and steel tray, driven mostly suburban unloaded but the occasional interstate trip from SA to Phillip Island loaded with toolboxes, travelling gear, welders etc.

Much better than the 19-20 mpg I got with the petrol V6 N70 I had before.

I’m with you on this one mate. I’d think it’s more like 7km/L...

I use the fuelio app. I'm often getting below 8l/100km. Around 7.3 to 7.56.

2017 SR5 auto here- no extra’s just bullbar. Pretty consistant 8.8-9.2L/100km mostly city driving- actual figures when filling up, not the trip computer. Seems to be the same even after the DPF recall done to car 3 months ago.

Hey mate- this sounds like the same experience i had whilst towing my boat after the recall was done to my car. Since coming back to work and doing my normal driving again its back to normal- every 350kms/15-20min unlike when towing....

Thanks for that mully man, when I finish this van trip I'll be interested to see if the burns go back to the 350km/15minute average which seems about right. My fuel consumption doesn't seem to have been adversely affected - around 14 l/100 when towing in hilly country and around 10 l/100 when not towing (that's with a canopy and a fair bit of after market gear).

RE Fuel consumption. A few years ago I did an exercise with a 2015 Kluger I owned. (13.8 l p 100 average over 100,000km) On the way to my shack, 160km highway driving, I took it easy twice, stuck to the speed limit, no harsh acceleration - once with simple Thule cross bar roof racks, once without. Reset the rip computer both times. It was about 0.2 worse fuel consumption with the racks on, carrying nothing. (it was like like 10.3 litres per 100 vs 10.1). So logically if you had some bigger racks, a basket, a snorkel, a side awning, a shovel bolted on etc etc - it could cost you 0.5 -1.0. So my SR5 no bull bar, canopy, no racks gets 9.7, wouldn't be surprised some guy with all the accessories will get say 10.5 -10.7.

Then your right foot & city 's country driving plays a big part too.

Lets get back to DPF discussion.

I reckon distance traveled in km's has no major part in how often DPF regenerate.
It has to do more with how much fuel is used/burned and in what manner and therefore more soot gets accumulated in DPF - hence more frequent burns.

For example: with normal driving (no towing), most people use about 10l per 100 km, this then equates to DPF being full every 300 or so km's and then regen happens.
Now, when towing, fuel usage increases about 40%, this then results in DPF being full 40% quicker - hence more frequent burns.

I've been monitoring my DPF, not in the Hilux though (my Hilux is pre DPF).
Turns out towing is 'good' for the DPF, I assume due to hotter EGT's. The % full in this car goes up about 1% per 8 to 10Km. When towing, it goes up 1% per 15 to 20km or even less if pushing it a bit. EGT's are noticeably higher when towing our boat.
So I assume soot accumulation is more determined by exhaust gas temps than actual fuel burnt. I am not a DPF expert though...

Seems the VIC EPA is issuing fines for smoky hiluxs:

Just had my Hilux in for the trillionth time to sort the dpf (91000km, SR5 Manual). Toyota have guarenteed me that they have finslly worked it out, they cleaned dpf, removed dpf injector & did an "ultrasonic" clean, removed & cleaned maf sensor. I seriously hope they have fixed it & not just fobbing me off again, although has to go back in as when they did the recall, they didn't install the light (even though I asked them to do so), that was 3 "fixes" ago. Thry also want to install a manual burn button, as it seems my driving doesn't suit the burn procedure. Funnily enough, it has only ever been to the 1 dealer for servicing/ repairs, speak to different people & get different service.

Hi All, does anyone know what a flashing DPF light means AFTER the latest DPF and ECU revision (feb 2020)?
The son has a 2016 2wd workmate and he’s done about 100km since getting it back from the local Toyota dealer after it went in for the revision. The dpf light on the dash started flashing, for about 20ks, but has since stopped. Not sure if that simply means it was doing a regen, or it’s playing up yet again??
TIA
I'm 100% sure....I think

Here in NZ we are fitting a completely new designed 5th injector housing, replacing the DPF's and recalibrating the ECU with new software.

Cambo when did that started, what models (years built) and who is entitled to it?
Did the all owners get notified or is it just on individual basis if someone is loud enough?

When mine had the service bulletin done last year (2018 SR, fairly sure it's the same dash as the workmate) I was going to get them to make it so that I could see when a burn was happening. I asked what it would look like though, and they said that for the SR dash it would be the DPF light flashing fast. The DPF light flashing slow means there's an issue. You can see how this could be confusing, so i decided to not worry about it in the end. At least on the SR5 it is clearly different.

If he asked for the visibility of a burn, this is most likely what it is. Given it was flashing and then went away about 20 minutes later, it also suggest its was most likely a burn. Wouldn't hurt to call the dealer and just confirm with them what they did though.

I can usually tell if a burn is happening by current fuel usage - generally if I lift my foot off the accelerator while still moving at speed/downhill the usage drops to 0. If there is a burn happening it will sit about 1-1.5L/100. Alternatively if you really want to know what is going on you could get a scanguage/ODB2 connector.

Withers, I have SR 2018, and had the update on ECU in regards to DPF burns, maybe 6 or 7 months ago.

There is a written message on the dash every time DPF regens.
No flashing lights.

If that's the case then I wish I'd gotten that too, I was just going on what I was told by the dealer at the time.

Not sure if it is different between the models, but do you have the pre or post-facelift model that also has the manual DPF switch std? I've got the pre-facelift (and have also had the dealer add the manual DPF switch)

When they did my recall I got the manual switch as well as the on-screen display to tell me when a burn is under way. Seems to be working fine, but I note that when I am towing my camper trailer (in S4, as per the manual) the burns seems to last for up to an hour - in fact I reckon it's doing a burn for almost 50% of my driving time when towing. Not real good for the fuel economy.

All GD engined models. Hilux, Fortuner, Prado.
Needs to be presented with specific faults but we are basically replacing them.

Letting you all in on what the isue has been....
Toyota decided to program the DPF burn off to not allow the temps to get too hot to help prolong the DPF life. This has caused the DPF to not actually clear.
Also the design of the 5th injector housing casued that to block and the fuel not getting to the DPF which makes the blockage never able to clear.
Then Toyota thought a reprogram would fix it, even though we advised the 5th injector housing was never going to work, they said no no the new program will fix it. Part of that program was making the burnoff temps get REALLY hot which then started to melt DPF's.
Now Toyota have come up with this new 5th injector housing, DPF and new programming to fix the issues.
Time will tell.....
