2006 Gearbox/speedo issue

Postby Pradlux on Sun, 12 Jan 2020 7:13 +0000

Gday all, I had on Friday the gearbox replaced with another reconditioned unit as the previous one was some times jumping out of 5th under no load. The "new" box drives well but the spedo now seems to be about 15ks over at 100!!! My tyers are 245/75/16 so not huge. The spedo was a little over before about 5ks. The thing that i am confused about is how changing the gear box has caused this? Can any thing be adjusted to rectify this? Is there any wire's that I should check? Using my phone gps to check the speed the ute is reving the same at 100 as it was before so there is no change in gear ratio. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
I love my ute but not as much as my dashound does!!
I just put a 3 inch exhaust on the ute, now the D4D sounds like a V4!!!

Do you have the serial number of the donor car?
I might be wrong.

Thanks hiluxxury. No I don't know the serial number of the donor car. I think the guys that did the job buy heaps of boxes and rebuild them. I will give them a ring tomorrow. It's just weird that every thing works but the spedo reading is off

No worries at all.
Yeah the r151 gearbox is used in a few applications with different final drives... good luck.

So an update. Driveline are sending me the part out of the old box and i will put it on and send the old one back. The guy didn't realise that there is different spedo gears on some boxes.

So I changed the spedo part and all back to normal. I tip to thoes who need to do this you will have a bit of gear oill come out when you change the part but if you have everything ready it won't be much if you quick like maby 50ml. I just hope I didn't get any speeding tickets in the meantime.
