Yeah I don't know about upgrading the towing capacity but being a used vehicle isn't an issue for the gvm upgrade, I think I read somewhere that if it's used it doesn't carry over into other states, where if it's done new it's recognised in all states?

That might be what it is.

Increasing the GVW on a pre-2015 upgrade is the same but the reciprocal of increasing the towing capacity. As far as I know you cannot increase the GCM, and the GCM is the GVW + the towing capacity. So to increase the GVW by say 250kg you reduce the towing capacity by 250kg. I wanted to do the opposite. Same thing as I said but the other way.

That was one of the questions I was going to sus out before getting it done, whether any additional weight above the stock GVM would be taken off the tow capacity or not. Either way we will be fine though because the camper we are looking at has an ATM of 2000kg, so there is still 500kg spare there which will mean I could max out the upgraded GVM and still be at the GCM, although I'm not planning to get anywheree near that weight

It is an important question, I need to find that out too. Does a GVW upgrade increase your GCM? I suspect not but I might get a surprise.

2000kg ATM includes the towball weight, so that trailer would be about 1820kg-ish GTM and the 180kg comes out of your vehicle's GVW.

Toyota's stated 2500kg is ATM though just to confuse the issue!

Out of interest my 2011 SR5 petrol auto has a GCM of 5060kg, towing 2250kg and the difference is the GVW of 2810kg (the diesel auto is 30kg less in both GVW and GCM).

Your 2013 has the same GVW as the 2011 diesel auto at 2780kg and towing at 2500kg, so Toyota did increase the GCM by the same 250kg, GCM=5280kg (petrol auto 2013 is 30kg higher in both).

So at least for me if can get an Engineer to see logic that I can upgrade to 2500kg towing, that the GCM can go up too as the cars are identical other than appearance. Not sure if the same logic applies to a straight GW upgrade though like you want.

Done a few things to the ute lately, installed a Redarc tow pro elite a few weeks ago, and last weekend done the low range 2wd mod. So much better for reversing the new camper, which seems so damn heavy compared to our last soft floor camper. Weighing in at about 1700 kg the hilux definitely knows it's there

Cheers. Next will most likely be a GVM upgrade because with the new campers ball weight (about 200kg) I am left with about a 50kg payload by the time we are all in the car, and that’s without even starting to load anything in. Crazy how quick everything adds up

Loving the build so far. Might pinch your idea for the battery box in the tub. Looks the Goods.
I currently just have mine living the outdoors life the tub on a battery tray with no cover. probably not the best thing for it.
Love the fridge slide too. Where did you source the slides from if you don't mind me asking?
If it won't go, force it. If it breaks, it needed replacing anyway.

Thanks, everyone that’s seen it seems to think it’s pretty damn good haha
Got the slides from Dunn and Watson on ebay, not the cheapest but they seem to have good products...just sold the slide on the weekend, our new camper has a spot for the fridge so will probably never go back in the ute, going to get around a 30L for the ute when $$ allow

Well yesterday was goodbye to the Hilux. Traded it in on a new rig, ready to start the process all over again. Was an awesome car and as far as I’m concerned was one of the best looking models out there when done up abit. This forum had been awesome aswell, so many ideas and helpful info on here.
Until next time...
Cheers

*Prepares for backlash haha*
Got a new Colorado LTZ. Went an auto this time for two reasons, heard nothing but good things about their towing ability, and also the Mrs can’t drive a manual which would leave us stranded if something happened to me while camping or snowboarding.
I can’t find any sort of forum for them though (other than facebook pages) which sucks cause this place was awesome lol
