Oil and fuel filter change. Few tips here in case anyone is interested. Fuel filter was a little dirty but no sign of water.Image
Easy way to fill the oil, just don’t leave it unattended and drop all 10L in.Image
I’ve installed the catch can in an awkward place to reach to undo, so used a syringe to empty.Image
Got this little gem from eBay.Image

Critt now its been out for nearly two weeks I can hardly notice. Obviously if ya throw it into a corner hard then it's gunna tuck and dive more than usual but the difference in flex and ride offroad is well worth it. Man can you put up a link on where ya got that little coin tray? Please!

I think this is the one:

https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/For-Toyota- ... rk:13:pf:0

There are lots of different sellers, the cheapest I saw for a 2004 to 2014 model was $11.28 + GST; but I am going for the one above because it is in Australia so will ship by 25 January :)

Yeah they look the same. This was mine, still says in stock. Best $14 I’ve spent in a while.

Replaced my clutch this week. Pretty big job, but I got there. Put an exedy sports tough in. If anyone has any questions about the job feel free to hit me up.

No Pics yet, but I mounted my 1kg fire extinguisher into my passenger footwell using a KAP industries bracket, can't recommend it enough, easy to mount, easy access, and very well designed and made.

Replaced my alternator, again. This is number 4 in 3.5 years (actually 5 if you count the DOA one I put in and then had to replace a few days later). The clutch failed on this one within 12 months. My autoelec is going to do a warranty claim for me. I'm getting pretty good at changing them out now...

You do a lot of mud or water crossings wombat? What else would cause that failure rate?
I’ve seen ‘sealed’ water cooled units for 79 Series LC’s, dunno if there’s something similar for our rigs.

No mate. I don't even have a snorkel so I tend to avoid water at all costs. I do live in a pretty dusty environment, though and spend a bit of time on dirt roads. My auto electrician tells me the alternator clutch failed this time. Maybe the combination of dust, and all the moisture we've had recently caused issues? It was during the crazy rain when I started it up and I could hear the clutch making noise all of a sudden. Then it failed the next day.

The first time I replaced it I put a solid pulley recon from Mudgerraba Auto Electrics in to avoid the clutch failure issue. But Bansheebuzz has been too flat out since to keep doing them.

My only other theory is that I have a pretty big power system which could be putting too much stress on the alternator? I have 2 batteries under the bonnet that the alternator charges. The aux is linked via a Redarc SBI12 solenoid. Then I have 2 deep cycle batteries in the canopy that are linked to the alternator via a Ctek D250S DC-DC charger. But I also have a permanent 250w solar panel feeding the Ctek, so I would have that that would take a lot of the pressure off the alternator.

I have no idea what else it could be.

I haven't been through more than 20cm of water during the flooding. It has been crazy wet, though. So no doubt the alternator copped plenty of splashes etc, but surely they're built to handle that. The latest alternator still looked basically new when I removed it the other day.

Or just bad luck. You'd think that if you were overloading the alternator your sparky would have said something... or maybe not.

The clutches are known to fail, its been discussed somewhere here in the past.
I might be wrong.

It's been a while but 60k km after the OEM 255/70/R15 tires i upgraded to Cooper AT3 LT 31/10.5/R15. Got em back with 35-40 psi in each tire, dropped down to 32psi and will see how they handle tomorrow.

Also got a wheel alignment.

Decided to go with a lowrange offroad level lift kit and wheel spacers in the near future, as dont need new shocks right now and just want it leveled. Dont do any offroading except the occasional jobsite.
