Ah gotcha. Then no, I didn't do any upgrades, they are as Mars supplied them. Hadn't noticed them being significantly brighter whilst reversing. I'll have a look for you later.

Got the new wheels on. They are from the US Toyota Tacoma, 17x7 with an offset of 4. Slight clearance issue with the front mudflaps so took them all off and a small little piece of the front wheelarch liner at the bottom towards the back.

Finally found some time to put the Toyota wheel arches and door trims on.

Also cut off the ladder rack (not sure what you call it but the frame protecting the rear window) in preparation for fitting my Mountain Top roller shutter and sport bar.

Think they've changed the design as I know there was a lot of talk about the fact you could break in by slicing through the rubber hinges between the slats, but the way the slats were sliding about made me think they had gone to the overlapping slats design.

Very tidy. Does that sit on top of the tub?

Yes, it sits on top of the tub and has clamps that go under the rail which means it’s a quick job to remove if ever needed.

Been building a mount for an ARB compressor. Nice spot for it in the engine bay behind the battery. Not sure what normally goes there but in mine I've just got a space and some holes already in the metalwork. Made some legs from aluminium tube and tapped some threads into it top and bottom. 6mm thick plate bolts to those and then it gets bolted to the floor through the wheel arch. Had to move the wiring looms but that was just a case of snipping some cable ties. Covered them with some corrugated cable management tube in case anything starts rubbing. Just got to get my head round wiring it in to a switch in the cab.

I'll put some washers on these bolts when I do the final install

Finally got my new seats mounted - Recaro Cross Sportster. Custom made some brackets out of 3mm angle steel and flat plate. Had a mates dad weld it all up. This is the design from SketchUp

Image

By using the stock Hilux runners I still have the correct sensors for seatbelts so the airbag system is unaffected, plus I was able to adapt the seat airbag loom so the Recaro seats plug in and the airbags will work. No warning lights! Also had the rear seats and the armrest trimmed to match the seats.

I spoke too soon! My passenger airbag light/seat wiring is not working correctly.

Switch the ignition on and the lights come on to indicate its doing diagnostics.

Light goes out.

Put seatbelt on and the light comes on to say the airbag is off and this happens regardless of whether anyone is sitting there.

Take seatbelt off and the light stays on saying the airbag is off.

Drivers side seems to be working fine as the airbag light on the dash goes off after diagnostics from initial ignition on and stays off.

So I've activated my Techstream account and managed to plug in using a Mongoose Pro cable. I found some DTCs relating to the sensors on the passenger seat. Cleared them and then found a section where you can calibrate the zero point for the seat (its currently showing minus numbers in the weights). Tried doing that but it kept bringing up faults with the sensors even though the faults weren't showing in the list of DTCs and wouldn't complete the calibration process.

Might have to concede defeat and book an appointment at the dealers. It looks like they could potentially calibrate the seat sensors based on the weight which means you should be able to change seats - I guess if you upgraded to heated and electric they would weigh more and so the calibration could be set to zero with the heavier seat.

Booked in with the dealer for tomorrow. Don't hold much hope they will be able to sort it. Here in the UK Toyota don't understand modifications.

Weirdly I saw on techstream that some of the sensors were open circuits. Took all the connections apart, made sure there were no bent pins and reseated everything. Thought I might have the sensors back to front but can't see how that could happen - 2 colours for the plugs, grey and black. They can only go in specific places so you could only swap them diagonally. I ended up swapping the 2 black ones but got exactly the same fault codes in the same order (it notes the sensors as FL FR RL RR) which suggests its not the sensors but maybe a wiring or ecu issue.

They won’t help. The seats are generic, the sensors and subframes/sliders are oe Hilux, the brackets are custom made and the airbag wiring has recaro adapters on them.

That's a pity
I'm sure they weren't cheap
I've had better support from the guy that sold me a $70 after market reversing camera
Best of luck, the truck is looking great

Slightly embarrassing! Toyota were able to work out that my new brackets were ever so slightly pushing onto the sensors. Washers space the brackets enough that it clears the fault. Live and learn!

Fitted some Stedi Copperhead led bulbs to the high beams. Wow! Amazing difference and for once, plug and play! The only thing I did was to add some corrugated split tube to protect the wiring.
