New Diff after 25000kms!!!!

Postby Skrewdriver on Wed, 12 Sep 2018 6:02 +0000

I had my 2012 Hilux SR5 in at the local Toyota dealership today getting the clock spring replaced and whilst it was in the workshop, the service department told me that the rear diff has a whine in it, and it is on the way out.

My concern is in November 2017 I had the rear diff fixed due to the same problem, and in that time the car has only done 25000km. No 4WD action, all long distance highway kilometers. Needless to say, I am way beyond pissed off as to have to fork more money, fix the diff, again, especially after so few kilometers. The car has 195000 in total.

I am just asking for people’s opinion, which of the following options:

Go back to original diff shop, and attempt to get them to fix it for free/warranty
If no luck with option one, pay them again to fix it

Or

Go to a new diff shop and cut my loses with diff shop number one?

If I go with option two, can anyone recommend a diff shop in Newcastle/Central Coast/Sydney area that will do the job properly?

Thanks in advance,

Peter

Its hard to say what happened in your repaired diff - did they set it correctly and use genuine/jap bearings? Were the old gears ok?? Who knows. I do my diffs myself so I can be sure of this.

Diffs are tricky beasts and some shops don't put the effort in... try another shop but not any shop here in Cbr FWIW.
I might be wrong.
