I must look like a rude bugger! Sorry jono, I had a family and kinda walked off the map for a while there
Not much has happened to the car besides reapirs really.. Put an ARB battery tray and a second battery in with a very basic Jaycar dual battery wiring kit. It's got a voltage sensing relay in it so when the start battery reaches a set voltage she wires in the aux as well to give it some charge.
John (the roo) came round one weekend to swap out my worn injectors with a new set of baileys injectors and give me some hands on mechanical tutoring with servicing the car to a higher level
We also resealed the rear diff and changed out some sagged rear springs with some new stockies.
Oh yeah.. how could I forget.. also staying up until the wee hours of the morning cleaning all the black gunge from the intake manifold, the head and EGR system ready for the next morning. What a %*^# job...
A few weeks ago I put the Cal off-road 3" rears in and had the front wound up to 3" to match. Another road force balance of the muddies, a wheel alignment and she was feelin pretty good. Apart from the low speed tail shaft vibration I'm getting now. I've had the centre bearing dropped as far as it can go to keep the 3 degree angle out of the box and it has improved but it's still not perfect. I'm guessing I'll have to look into castor wedges for the rear next..
I managed to smash up my old tub to the point where people must have thought I was blind and driving backwards everywhere so I snapped up a local tub and canopy combo for bugger all $$. The canopy needed some lovin but I flipped it for a nice little profit to put towards more mods
Consequently I took the SJS off to give it a workover as well. The only place I could find in Brisbane that would do anything with a fiberglass canopy wanted $1200 to do half a respray and repair the wing so I thought screw that, I'll by more gear and have a go at it myself! I bought a nut-sert tool and a fibre glass repair kit to repair the broken wing mounts and a nice little spray gun in a Devilbiss SGK 600. That's this weekends project: to respray it and refit it to the tub and do some wiring if I've got time.
Until very recently....
Before lift:
After lift:
The next week after putting the lift in, I took it out to Ripley on the way home from to work to see how she'd go and it was going well.. Right until I wondered what the clunking in the front end was that I could hear..
Snapped the LH sway bar link first time out... spewin!
I'm super gun shy now.. which sucks because I've built it to be driven and I never had a problem with the front set at 1". Is putting a 3" MR lift in and snapping sway bar links a regular thing? anyone?
Last week I took the plunge and went up to see Matt at Just Autos..
enuf said.. hehehe!
And yes Jono, I'm still in Brisbane, for 5 more weeks then I'm moving back to Newcastle.
Cheers!!
