HELP. This noise is driving me crazy

Postby Xhilux on Sun, 16 Jul 2017 8:51 +0000

Ive got a speed related noise sounds like a bearing noise wuuup, wup, wup the faster i go the faster the noise gets
Ive changed all four wheel bearings, changed the front brake discs and the noise is still there.

Noise seems to be coming from the back
Cant be the diff or the gearbox/transfer case because ive been told they dont make those noises.

Can anyone help??

Its a 2007 hilux i posted in the wrong section

Its not the tyres because i lifted the back and the noise is still there while the tyres are rotsting in the air

Seems to be coming from the diff, driveshaft or transfer case

Ive recently changed the transfer case oil but i think the tramsfer case wont make a noise like that

Its like rubber rubbing on the rubber

Not just a bit of crap behind the seal cover on the input to the rear diff?

How about the abs sensors? If it has ABS. They get crap on them and can make a. Lose. My wife's swift did this. Do a google search for more info. Sounded like a bearing or diff noise. Was stoked with the result

Who told you the diff cant make that noise?

I once had the front diff seal changed and too much preload put on it and it sounded like a wheel bearing, had any work done on the diff in the last few thousand Km's?

Interesting that it doesn't change when you take the load off of it.

I took it to the mechanic today and he said its my diff

The only thing i did to my diff is change the oil 6 months ago to penrite lsd diff oil

The mechanic said that hes had alot of diffs stuff up because of the penrite oil

900$ to recondition it, i still dont think its the diff how can oil be the cause of the noise

Is there anyway that i can make sure its the diff

Big call blaming penrite oil.

I have been running penrite in my diffs and transfer case for 50 000 now, but I don't have a LSD rear.

Ask the mechanic if he is willing to enter into a deal where if it doesn't fix it you don't have to pay. Test his confidence in his diagnosis, the work will be sent to a diff specialist as not many mechanics have the equipment to do them properly, maybe you should seek a second opinion from a specialist.
