Hi all, thought I would finally get around to writing one of these things up, good way to keep track of what I've done to the ute and how much money has been spent on it aswell haha...anyway, bought the car 3 years ago brand new but have only really started doing the 4wd mods since May this year after we took it off road stock standard and the Mrs kept going on about how it needed to be higher and with more protection. Didn't need to be told twice
What's been done so far, starting at the beginning.
- Speedliner spray on tub liner
- Caddy storage canopy
- Middle lap sash belt for the kids
- ARB Deluxe bull bar
- Southern Cross FabWorks sliders, powdercoated Sahara Black
- Fox 2.0 adjustables set at roughly 2", TJM 300kg leafs in rear
- BFG 265/70 KO2's
- Recovery points
- Rear wings for dual battery and storage

Just get three seats across the rear

Before lift and tyres

Later that day. I ended up getting the front lowered from 580mm centre to arch, back to 565mm. The CV's were pretty steep (I thought so anyway) and it was rough as guts, the 15mm made a huge difference to the ride
Image
After the 15mm drop

Supplied bolts for the recovery points were too long, added a few more washers

Rear wings. Got a 130AH AGM battery, Projecta IDC25, narva fuse block with auto reset circuit breakers, baintech panel, made up a panel for some Anderson plugs and a light switch for the canopy cause having to climb up in there to switch it off is rubbish. Made the frames from aluminium and powdercoated them sahara black, AA plywood with marine carpet, kept the latches simple and just used some double roller catches with holes in the panels as a handle, they are pretty narrow so a compression lock or t-handle would have fouled up on the battery anyway.
That's about it so far...snorkel, catch can, fridge slide for the waeco and a few other things to hopefully come.

Nice job with the car seats. It won't be long before you get rid of them. I had three like you and now down to two car seats as the kids get older. Amazing difference with space to only have two instead. Nice work on the rear wings.

Cheers PCB....can't wait to start culling the kids seats haha, three is a nightmare.....only 1 1/2 yrs till the first one goes, and 5 1/2 yrs till the last one disappears haha. Be good to use the storage space under the seats again too

Cheers Robbo. Haven't done much to it lately, installed a canopy light switch so I don't have to crawl up in there and that's about it. Trip to Fraser coming up later this year so afew things to get done before then, snorkel, fridge slide, flash lube fuel filter, sheet on top of the sliders, roof racks, awning, upgrade the spare to a BFG KO2, catch can...think that's about it

Aslong as everything turns up I should have a HPD catch can and a flashlube diesel filter going in over the long weekend. Also going to make up some checkerplate to go ontop of the sliders, stop the rocks and mud a bit

A week later than I wanted thanks to some useless local and not so local retailers, but got there in the end haha. About 44k on the clock now so will do the egr clean soon aswell, and got the flashlube diesel filter on over the long weekend aswell. Will get some pics after it's in tomorrow

Catch can installed. Looks like I have routed the houses a little different to what I have seen on here but seems to do the trick. Bracket needed a few run ins with the grinder to get it to fit on top of the abs bracket. Could see a small amount of crud on the egr but nothing like the pics I have seen on here, could still see the clean stem. I swear I can feel like a vibration in the accelerator since installing it, 'grainy' is the best word I can think of, any ideas?

Finally got everything painted up and fitted. Used a removable bed bolt for the fridge slide so it's easy to take out and free up the tub, and it only leaves a washer size fitting on the tub floor that sits below the ribs so they don't get in the way of anything. Also made a stone guard for the camper aswell

Thanks Critter. Rhino platform this weekend if they get the part in, and Safari snorkel next friday. Been looking into chips/tune but there is a lot of mixed feedback out there so will keep looking for now

Installed a Steinbauer chip a few weeks ago, power kicks in stronger and pulls harder, also dropped 0.5 L/100km. I wasn't too impressed with it to start with but I think that's because I had some unrealistic expectations brewing in my head haha, but then I started to see how good it is.
I really need to go back through and update all the pics (cheers photobucket), what is everyone using to host images?.

Will check it out thanks...clutch started to slip a few days ago so getting an Exedy heavy duty clutch put in next week. Only 53k on the clock, Steinbauer went on about 3 weeks ago, looks like the clutch couldn't handle it

Haven't added much on here lately so thought I would go back through and update all the photos, some I can't find but might fix them one day.
Managed to get down to Perisher a couple of times this season, was a good year for it. Heading off to Hakuba early next year, can't wait :D
Image
Just got back from a trip to Fraser Island, first time up there and can't wait to head back. Car went awesome (except the dash lights on the way up and back, wheel speed sensor), was glad to have the mods that I have done, the other Hilux (stock height) with us didn't make it out without losing a side step, but even standard you can still get everywhere on the island.
Image
The camper and the little guy making sure I hitched up properly  , soon to be replaced with a hard floor. We had heaps of rain up there so towing on the beach was pretty easy.
Image
Image
Platform, snorkel and awning. Wasn't happy with the standard brackets that came with the Kings awning cause they only reached the outer rung of the platform, so fabbed some up out of 6mm staino to span across two rungs, also made some brackets for the maxtrax, kept them simple with some 6mm ally flat bar and bought some of the maxtrax mounts. Can't leave them on cause it doesn't fit in the shed but they only take a minute to put on and off.
Image
Image
Also need to look into a GVM upgrade, weighing in at 2320 which includes the permanent stuff like the dual batt, cabinets, roof rack, etc and a full tank of diesel, doesn't inlcude any tools, fridge and fridge slide or anyone in the car. Doesn't leave much of a payload when you have a family of 5 and the tow ball weight needs to come off that figure aswell. Spewin' because I only just done the suspension last year and if I had of been a bit more experienced I would have seen this coming

Can you get a proper GVW upgrade on a used vehicle in QLD? I asked in NSW and the answer is no, has to be done on a new car before first rego. You can buy the actual suspension but not get the actual GVW upgrade.

I actually wanted to upgrade my towing capacity from 2250kg to 2500kg to match the capacity of the 9/2011 upgrade. Even though nothing was changed suspension or brake wise at the 9/2011 upgrade it was impossible to do. All I wanted was to remove 250kg from the GVW and add to the towing capacity leaving the GCM unchanged (essentially what Toyota have done with the 2015 upgrade).

You are right though that you are in trouble, at 2320 it only leaves you 460kg for maybe 100kg of towball, 5 people and bugger all else. At least you can still tow the full 2500kg at the 2780kg GVW. Some foolish Ranger and 2015+ Hilux buyers think they can actually tow what the car is advertised to tow, and don't realise that at towing capacity they can basically only have a driver and a towbar plus a few bits an pieces in the car.
