EGR valve block off

Well my first job was not until 9:30 today so I got up at the usual time at 4:30 and got stuck into it... all done! took it for a spin around the area to make sure its all good and theres no issues so far (touch wood). I did however remove the gasket and scan as it scans to scale. Therefore if anyone wants to make their own blanking plate (just because you can, not that your a tight arse or anything) then let me know and I will send the scanned gasket for you to print off and use as a template.

7mm hole.
New DENSO Injectors are the go! New genuine parts.

Ok guys so I have been running the chip tuning egr block chip which simply plugs into the sensor on the air box,
Since install on my lux with 33" muddies 3" exhaust Snorkel factory steel bull at and winch fuel economy dropped from around 610kms per 65lt tank down to 550ish km per tank.
Have plugged in the dominator 1 chip and am running tune 6 atm.
Power seems noticeably better but fuel economy looks like it's suffered another hit, normally getting 200kms from the first 1/4 tank now siting at 170... To be fair I spent 3.5 hrs in stop start city traffic.
Any body else running similar set up getting similar/better or worse fuel figures?

Also guys looking into egr block offs and worried about fault codes, this chip seems to be working well and has not thrown any codes

Ha ha yeah would be great if I could have both.
Just wondering what others are getting with similar mods, if it's about right I'm happy but if it's excessive then maybe I have a problem I should fix that's all.
Next step will probably be a larger fuel tank lol

Hi Greg,

Mate I have a very similar setup.
2014 Auto hilux, Full 3" exhaust 31' BFG ATs.
About 300Kg worth of Extras

I tired a TDI tuning "Box".. the results were more power but more black smoke.
Fuel econ was only slight worse than when std.

I fitted a Chiptuning EGR Off.... the box that tricks the Airflow meter to thinking its intake is under 5deg C so ECU gives no EGR function, only "Boost Blow-Off" function.

Fuel use 100% went up by at least 50km per tank with this fitted!
Engine seemed to run much smoother when cold, injectors were def louder when hot.
No power gain, if anything felt worse on pedal.

Just last week I had a Mild ECU remap and dyno done by Flash Diesel here in Brissy, The results were very nice.
from 93Kw and 477nm at wheels to 112kw and near 580nm... drivability and power delivery is now so much better.

Spoke to them about the EGR off module, it was advised I don't continue to use it due to the way it works.
I also cant see how telling an ECU its only 5deg when its really 40+ in there can be doing the tuning any favours.

They can turn the EGR function off if I wish, Im not sure whether to do that or go with a 7mm hole plate as Im worried about where the blow-off would go and can't find a definitive answer?
Prob not so much of an issue with an auto?

Anyone have any input here? can the EGR be turned off in the ECU but still retain its boost dump function.
Lots of "Flash" shops are advertising EGR off as part of a tune.

I'm looking at getting one to. Would be nice to get feedback from others.

Mine is a 09/2015 model and its had a Provent and blanking plate since new.

Hi mate, sorry I've been a bit lazy and haven't installed the egt monitor just yet so I couldn't say if there's been any change

Chris.

Hi mate, I wonder how the egr off in remap works in comparison to the chip tricking the temp sensor, is it really any different? The only reason I went for the chips is the fact it can be easily unplugged where a bad remap can't and the only reason I want egr off is to stop it the intake gunking up with carbon.
Atm I'm running tune #6 from the dominator 1 getting 500km a tank not sure what the total power is but feels good lol

Guys, wondering if I could pick your brains,

I have a 2012 3.0d4d auto, I have had the Ecu flashed by Celtic tuning and the trucks driving well now with a noticeable increase in torque, problem I am having is if I'm sitting at a steady 60mph for a few miles and accelerate hard I am occasionally getting a lot of blue/white smoke out the exhaust it's noticeable in the mirror.
After talking to Celtic tuning about this they advised me to fit an EGR blanking plate as the EGR has been turned off, I wasn't aware of this at the time of the remap.
Is this a likely solution to the smoke as if the EGR is disabled wouldn't it be closed anyway?

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

Cheers
Stuart.

Have checked all the usual suspects and can't seem to find anything amiss, being in the UK our trucks are fitted with DPF filters in the exhaust, maybe this could cause it? All all oil and water levels are normal and it doesn't apear to be using any, if it was turbo seals I'd imagine it would consistently produce smoke but just does it on the odd occasion.

Cheers,
Stuart.

Where ever there is an action there is a reaction.
It's simple and this is applied to a vehicle that is tuned, especially 450 kw or over.
7mm restrictor plate is $7.00 in Australia. Just saying.

The plate stops this as the above image.

From what i've read in these 58 pages, installing a catch can totally negate the need to block off the EGR.

Is the correct? Because catch cans are bloody expensive ($385 for HPD one)

Incorrect. You still need to stop the soot! Buy the provent if ya dont wanna sgell out for the (in my opinion) over priced and over flashy hdp unit.
