looking good Jiggins, what type of drawer runner system are you using??
On the internet you can be anything you want. It is strange that so many people choose to be stupid!

Custom Runners 32 x 25 Aluminium U channel fixed to the drawer and 14 30mm ball bearing fixed to the box. I will take a few pic of them.

I got the idea off Dave Jones From Exploroz.com

Here are the pic of the runner system I've made.
Works great so far but don't have any weight in the drawer yet.

See what you think of the finished product before you put the orders in. This is my 4th attempt at setting the tray up. :(
Every time I had a good idea it seem to be worse not better.

Good work Jiggins.

For the others wayching, Dave Jones came up with a very good design and as good enough to document the plans in a 15 page PDF file here:

Thanks Rod, thats a great link.

Jiggins, thanks for those pics, I know understand how they slide....a set of rollers screwed to the side with a c-channel that slides inbetween them...cool

Hi Fella's

just a thought with with channel the way it is it won't be very strong, once you have weight in it it'll probably bend .

Mine is a similar setup but the channel is the other way around and the only thing with aluminium is it's a bit soft, mine with the weight in it has started to crack the aluminium where the bearings sit and now the draws are binding up.

I'm going to take them out and get some stainless steel RHS and screw it to the side of the draws then it should be all good again hopefully.

Cheers Mick

If you check Dave's plans, he is using 38x25mm Steel RHS. Maybe Aluminium SHS with say 3mm walls would also work.

James to give the aluminium section a little more strength you could possibly make up a wooden block to fit inside the U channel this would box the section giving it a bit more strength as well.
I've got to go and pick up some steel in the next few days and see if I can get some pricing on 32 x 25 x 2.5wall tube. You could replace the alloy section with this and I could weld some stops on it for you too.
Mick is right the alloy will give you trouble after a period of time.
Cheers

Top work! that is basically how I designed my first set of draws in the Hilux... worked really well. Still have plenty of pics somewhere perhaps I should post them up... unfortunately when my car went into the Perth 4WD Show for K&N 4WD they didn't approve of my draws so they gave me a set of Black Widow ones.

Yeah if you could get a price Mark that would be great the Aluminium was all i could find around the house. The Ally is 3mm thick wall i did think of the weight so i put it on the ground and jumped on it a few times and didn't bend so figured i'd give it a go and se what happens.

Nope, they are now in Graham Cahill's shorty patrol (WA 4wd Action editor/photographer) so they went to a good home :)
