which clutch to get

Postby sharp018 on Thu, 25 Sep 2014 6:08 +0000

Hello ive notice all new hiluxes have Dual Mass Flywheels

Now im running 33s and do alot of bush bashing and alot of snatching so my clutch has obviously coped a beating

The clutch is genuine original

Im upgrading to a heavy duty clutch can anyone tell me whats stronger

Excedy heavy duty

Or

Safari tuff clutch

Ive seen you can buy the kits with Single flywheels

What is better single or dual mass

Ive had a vt commodore in switch I swaped the dual mass to a single for burnouts and extra torque for riding the clutch.

Dual mass are becoming extremely rear to get machined as I was told for my vt it waa cost 850 for a new dual mass every time its hotspotted or warped with single its.60 bucks to machine

Can someone confirm are single better and what is stronger Safari tuff clurch or excedy heavy duty

All 1kd engines are single mass flywheels

Are you sure? I wasnt 100% but alot of people have said they are which is why its weird that excedy would supply a single mass conversion kit?

I have the exceedy sports tuff in my hilux... I don't rate it at all, but i think it was to do with the company who installed it. But thats a whole other story.

Thanks heaps fellas I must look into it further
Today I was constantly pulling gq's around with a snatchy through muddy ruts and constantly riding the clutch it was rooted before that anyway. Wish there was some kind of review I might just ring bursons and see if that can find out or excedy them selves.

Have a look at 4terrain clutches too, made by CI

I have one of these in my lux and am pretty happy with it.
It does well considering the abuse it cops with the 33's some time, I am still going to re-gear to make its life easier though.

Ditto on the 4Terrain. I have done 34,000km on mine since installing. Combination of heavy off road (two Cape York trips included), towing and highway.

4 terrain clutch suggestions

Postby Jesse98 on Wed, 09 Mar 2016 2:05 +0000

So my clutch is on the way out, and I've been looking at the 4 terrain ones which I reckon I'll go with, and I'm just wondering if anyone has any good suggestions of brands.

Cheers

I'm in support of 4terrain as well. I have had it in mine now and its seem some pretty tough offroad stuff and been up and back from Cape York as well. The only thing that has dissapointed me a little with it is a bit of water must've got in in somewhere and now it clicks all the time because the throw out bearing has seized.

x2 mine has done the same. I'm not looking forward to pulling it out again or maybe I'll just leave it as I rarely notice the clicking. Otherwise its a good clutch.
I might be wrong.

ACS Extreme outback clutch in mine for 30,000km and going really well especially for under 400 bucks. NPC clutch is tough as nails all the big hp hiluxes are running them.
