Ok, Had a better look today. No is the answer 9.5'' center and 32 axle spline count. Hilux is 8'' center and 30 axle spline count

Out of budget, would sooner drop a standard diff center back in

So we know that for the rear, a 90 120 and 150 series prado diff will fit - anything else? Shopping around and even though this thread gives the gearset part numbers they don't specifically list the vehicles in which a rear diff can be sourced from

Have a strange feeling you can fit G series hilux diff centers with correct shims or spacers.

As all 4x4 Hilux's run 30 count splines and most are 50mm carrier bearing.

Hi guys just wanting to confirm with the front and read diff from a prado 120 or 150 is it a direct swap on an SR? Found some 150 diffs with 7000km on them. The C&P are 3.909s and the same part number as in this thread but with everything else only a few seals and rod part numbers match up not the housing, mounts or flang or are they actually the same? Would be awesome if the front is a direct swap so I would save on a rebuild.

Also if they don't change over what bearing and seals do I get for a rebuild? Ones from the prado or hilux? I can get genuine bearings for about 20 or 30 a pop so cheaper than those kits but will be getting the solid spacer for the rear when the locker goes in.

I managed to get my hands on some hilux diffs with the 3.9 ratio (comes in the 2014 sr5 5spd auto)with 9000km and will be putting them into a 2010 SR. I know I have to change the side tube as mine does not have ADD but my question is do I also have to remove the needle roller bearings (in red circles) or can I leave them in?

Why not leave the ADD in place? I had a suspicion that those needle lived in the tubes? Personally never taken one apart though.

I would but I got an SR and couldn't see an electrical or vacuum hose plug for it? If there is a way would love to know. Off the car they aren't connected.
This is on the left side and what I'm guessing is the needle roller bearing? I don't think they will cause any problems if I leave them in but just wanted to check

TOMUCH wrote:'86-95 IFS trucks, 1st and 2nd gen 4Runners, and all '93-98 T100s use a 7.5" front diff that is offset to the passenger's side. Later models came with ADD (Automatic Differential Disconnect) which uses a vacuum actuated mechanism to disconnect the drivers side axle shaft from the differential. Carriers and gear sets are interchangeable between the two different versions (and also happen to be the same as used in the 2wd Toyota pickup 7.5" diffs). One difference between ADD and non-ADD diffs is that the carrier in an ADD differential has needle bearings supporting the axle shafts at the differential. The non-ADD diffs did not have this bearing and sometimes the passenger side axle flange wears the carrier and becomes loose or wobbly, eventually causing oil leaks, noise, and possible spider gear damage. ADD and non-ADD diffs are swappable as are most of their parts. This makes it possible to change your ADD diff to non-ADD by simply swapping parts. This is desirable to some people since some of the ADD stubs are smaller diameter than the non-ADD stubs and are therefore slightly weaker.

Is there any beefed up rear diff or gearsets I could use in the back of the Hilux?

I've just munched my second diff in as many weeks :o

Heading to work with a load on. Just like with the first breakage it was early in the morning and I was too damn tired to be hitting the loud pedal

Besides changing out the whole rear end I don't know of any stronger 8" diffs. Finding it hard to believe the power you are making is lunching diffs so easy. Maybe a silly question but the rest of the drive train is OK?

Clutch had to be upgraded to an NPC custom heavy duty, but aside from that everything is normal.

It IS roughly double the torque of factory, I'm just wondering whether the diffs are too old or maybe Prado diffs aren't made as strong as Hilux diffs?

Hmm, you maybe on to something. Prado are not the thick cut type of gear in the 3.9:1 and higher format? Wondering now if that is the difference

My 3.9:1 lost 3 teeth but the damage was minimal. My 4.1 is pretty much wrecked.

But they all have less teeth overall then the factory 3.5:1, so you would assume the teeth they do have would be thicker?

Furthermore than 120 and 150 series PRados were rather for more towing capacity.

So unless they heat treat the gears or some other treatment there's nothing obvious.

Could try a set of nitro gears? Just seems odd considering there are a few utes like yours getting around.
