Ive just pre wired for a LED light bar, I used a switch from Custom Rockers and used their negative switching diagram and it worked a treat!

I've just installed Hella 4000's and the genuine Toyota Driving Lamp Harness P/N PZQ59-89010 in my 2012 SR5 but are now having problems with it blowing the fuse every time the spot lights should come on.

Installation Manual
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BwzGRr ... sp=sharing

I have triple checked every connection and the all seem ok.

Can anyone suggest the purpose of the blue wire at step 16/ step 17 in the manual, my guess is that it has something to do with the auto headlights in the later models, which mine is?

I may have the blue wire terminal in the wrong position in the harness connector as my connector doesn't look exactly like the variant in Step 17. The pictures are a little confusing too as the first shows the blue wire in the top right area of the connector and the second shows it in the bottom left area, 180 degrees?

Hopefully someone has installed the same harness and can set me in the right direction.

does it blow the fuse with the 4000s disconnected? What size bulbs have you got and what size fuse are you using?
Is it the fuse in the light kit that is blowing or the fuse for the lights in the original fuse box?

Yeah the fuse still blows with the 4000s disconnected which makes me think I've stuffed up somewhere, just can't find where?

4000s have the standard 100w halogen globes fitted. The fuse that's blowing is the new spotlight wiring harness 20A fuse, which I thought should have been enough but it cooks 25A fuses just as quick.

The reason I went with the genuine wiring harness was for a simple, plug and play, neat, hassle free install. 30min they said???

Is the wire arriving at the lights the same colour as the one at the 87 terminal of the relay?

Does the fuse blow as soon as you put it in or only when you switch on your spotties? If it blows when the Spotties are turned on try this

disconnect spotlights, with the power off test the resistance of your 12v wire from the relay to your lights to earth. It should be greater than 1 M ohm

If it's not you have a short in that cable to the chassis or a crossed wire in the loom trace it through and find it.
If it's fine, with the power still off test from pin 30 on your relay to earth again it should be >1Mohm ( if it's this wire it will blow as soon as the fuse is in)

I'm pretty sure it'll be in the output from your relay to your spotties from your description, if the test above are all fine continuity test from your spotties positive to pin 87 on the relay to check that it's the right cable.

Good luck

Yup, red. It's a Toyota relay (90080-87019) so it's terminal 5, which is the equivalent to 87. Orange from the battery, terminal 3 or 30 on a normal relay.

I think I've found my short. Where the Toyota harness joins the spotlights harness, I'd soldered and used heat shrink on each join. I then used heat shrink over the lot which may have melted the inner heat shrink layer allowing them to short.

This time I will stager my solder joints and try again.

Thanks for the help fault finding guys.

Bump

So this thread needs a bit of warming up :)

I have had my rolux for 2 x winters & we get a bit of low cloud & I keeping thinking I would like to have the fog lights on independent of other lights. I already have Led Light Bar on own switch - because I can !!!

I cant find any other thread closer than this one

But

As BH has answered previously can he can tell me if it is a good idea to have a switch on/off for the fog lights & should I be using this thread to do it ?
Looking to buy

- 54" Led Light Bar to Roof Rack mounting kit
- Roof Top Tent
- Tub Transformer (TT) -> http://ozutz.com.au

Could someone assist me to what i half to do to this wiring harness/diagram so that it is "negative switched" and connected to my high beam. At the moment all this reading is confusing me.

Im not having much luck with this, Ive found a harness thats same as mine so what do i do with a standard 4pin relay with a on/off switch So that its a 'negative switching'?

Hey guys I drew up a diagram of wiring up spot lights and led light bars

Image

Where I drew the line from the positive + to the high beam, you don't have to connect to left and right high beam, you can piggy back off one high beam wire.

When high beam is on this will activate power to the switch so you cannot turn on spot lights or your led bar without high beam on. As this meets Australian Rules

Your best off to buy relays that are prewired with about 5cm of wire sticking out this makes it easier to solder/splice ( 85 to 30 ) on the relays

I reccomened using a 30 amp in line fuse from the battery to relay

"Don't piggy back the power wire" as 30 amps will keep blowing if it's powering 2 relays plus spotted and led bar

You can utilize the earth connection, if possible you can put all earth's to one spot if you like

Relays vary in how many connection it had

If you buy a 5 connection relay it will be
87, 87, 85, 30, 86

For instance of Spot lights there are 2 correct. So you will have 2 positive wires these wires connect to the number 87 on your relay

You can however use a 4 connection relay all you have to do is solder the 2 wires off the spot lights together then connect the one wire to the relay

Refer to my diagram

The high beam wire is the Red/Yellow wire

Lets just say some times you just half to shop pull it all back out, spread it all out have a good look and you'll figure it out. Test it before installing! Then put it back in, flick the switch and then taa... raaa...

PS. WHOOOO SAAAAAAA

Thanks :)

G'day guys. I'm in need of some assistance please.

I'm wiring up my two spotlights and light bar on separate circuits and some weird sh!t is happening. I'll break them up.

Spot lights.
Essentially the same as the previous photo with the exception of the power source for the high beams. I'm getting it from the fuse box using a fuse tap onto the high beam. This is the power source to activate the relay on both circuits. When the lights are all off, I can turn the spotlights on, but as soon as the headlights are turned on, the spotlights switch off. I want it the other way around!! Haha. The spotlights are powered by the main battery. Both the spotlights and light bar measure 12v at the switch in the OFF position when all the lights are off, but 0v when selected ON. I thought it would be the other way around??

Light bar.
This doesn't even switch on. It gets its power from the aux battery.

I'm slowly getting my head around using a multi meter but am now a little confused and lost as to where the problem(s) rest.

Sounds like you have and negative switching headlight system. when everything is off the feed to the high beam will be live and when you swith the high beam on it it earthed out.

I think you're right too after stewing over it all last night in bed.

Can I easily turn it into a positive switching relay or must I get another relay? I noticed in the previous diagrams for a negative switching relay you connect up 85 and 30. So with my limited experience, if I do in fact have a negative switching relay should I connect up these two terminals? I simply connected it up according to the instructions, which appears to be for positive switching.

Cheers
