auto electrician advice needed

hi all
im hooking up a 180w led bar and a set of 70w hid driving lights.
i had them all connected etc running cabin switch off the yellow
and red trace wire off back of headlight.
all works ok but led bar wont go off when high beam is dimmed
but will with rocker switch the hid light will go off with high beam
switch but there is a 10 sec delay but come straight on when high beam
is turned back on.
now my passenger side light is very dimm on low and high beam.
is there any auto electricians on here that could possibly pm me
so i can explain more.
i should add its a 2007 d4d and im using 2 seperate relay's and switches

put a relay in.

pick up the 2 parallel pins of the headlight bulb and solder wires into each of the existing wires, run one to the 85 terminal of the relay, run the other through the switch then on to the 86 terminal of the relay. Battery to the 30 terminal through a 40 amp circuit breaker and 87 to the lights. Use at least a 50 amp relay.



This will guarantee the relay will only turn on when both high beam and the switch is on.

If you want a light on the switch to light up when the lights are on ( if you need a light on the dash to tell you they are on then you shouldn't be driving) then it is a whole different ball game. Would have to identify the headlight wiring system

oops, missed the bit where you said you were using 2 relays and switches.

Same deal just lower the size of the circuit breaker to each relay accordingly.

Do you know why my high and low beam are dim
Even with no external lights connected?
I fiited new h4 globe and no difference

could be any number of reasons depending on what you did, fuses would be a good place to start.
Could be a broken common wire on the dull side, that's the one going to the left hand parallel terminal on the bulb looking from the pin side with the un parallel pin at the top or could be the bulb itself if you disconnected it, they can corrode internally and lose connection, easiest way is to plug in a spare bulb.

Yeh tried spare bulb and still the same all fuses
Are good to make sure my plug is right looking
From left hand guard at back of light first parallel
Wire is red next is red with yellow trace (highbeam)and horizontal
One is black with white trace

unless you moved the wires to another place in the plug and they worked before you touched it they should still be in the right place, wires don't randomly swap themselves about.

Might be time you seeked the help of someone that knows what they are doing that can have a look at the car, only so much can be done from a distance and there is a very real threat that you will make the problem much much worse.

From the sounds of the first post you had something wired very wrong and could have melted something in the control circuits by overloading it. An extra 180 watts of load on a device designed for 120 watts can do a lot of damage. I hope I am wrong and it turns out to be something simple.

Yeh never moved plugs etc righthand light is normal
Just cant workout why left one went dim

if the bulb and fuses are ok then it must be either in the wiring as in a broken one, or a damaged control device and it probably is not a coincidence that it happened at the same time you had an unsuccessful attempt of wiring in high load accessories.

There is nothing else I can tell you that I am confident you will understand and as so leave myself liable for any further damage you may cause following your interpretation of my advice. I do not have professional liability insurance.

There is one other thing, if you choose to continue troubleshooting have a fire extinguisher close handy.

When they where first hooked up it was too existing
Harness there was a 120w lightbar and set of 55w hid
Spotties i just used all the same wiring and this happened
Where before the other lights where in for 3yrs with

Is the dim passenger light HID and therefore running off a ballast? If so, could be the ballast is dodgy ... you see this a bit with the cheap Ebay HID kits.

No not the spotties its the car headlight just the
Left the right is fine
Its even dim with nothing hooked up ie spotties

Wonder if the earth point got burnt. Anyone know where they are? Often just behind the headlight.
