Stupid question time.... (windscreen wipers)

Postby Unluckyalf on Mon, 15 Dec 2008 4:03 +0000

Ok, here goes...

Windscreen wipers. I just want to find out if its just me that had odd sized wipers.

I went to Supercheap Autos yesterday to get some replacement wipers (the complete assembly and not just the blades), the Bosch reference guide there says BB400 or BBE400s for Driver and Passenger wipers for all Hilux since 1965! Online the Bosch website seems to concur.
So, i bought 2xBB400 to find that they are both too short (400mm length). It seems that the drivers side is 520mm or so and the passenger side is 450mm. The odd thing is that you cant buy 520mm blade assemblies.

Can anyone shed any light on this and give reccommendations on blades?

I use Bosch bracketless wipers.

I change my wiper blades on the average once a year due to the tropical weather all year round. I first used the original OEM wiper blades and then the wiper brackets were starting to rust after 2 1/2 years.

Changed to the Bosch with the bracketless wipers since a few months back. Costly but they are good. Only time will tell if they are worth it compared to the original.

Those are exactly the ones i bought today. I got some refill rubbish on sunday and to be honest, they were worse than the ones i took off!

The Bosch bracketless ones are virtually silent

BBA530 and BBA475 if anyone is interested... the Bosch reference thingy is wrong

How much did you pay for them?

I can't remember the part numbers I used but I paid about AUS$56 for the left and right wipers.

They do look funny though without the brackets.

According to this topic I put those fancy wiper blades over a year ago and they are still working well, seems money well spent, they will lst another winter any way.

Morning All! Thought I might bump this one up and see what windscreen wipers people recommend almost 8 years later. I need some new blades for a Gen 7, though I'm sure any Gen 8 owners would appreciate your advice/reviews!.

Thanks in advance!

Mate definitely go the Bosch bracketless ones as mentioned above. Is the first thing I’ve changed on any of my cars.
They are silent no clunking back and forwards, no shudders. And I haven’t replaced a set yet sold the cars before they needed to be changed.
Had the last pair for 2 and a half years on my rodeo parked in full weather 24/7 and they were still fine. Image
