Well to continue the story here are some more photos of the journey so far:
This is what I drove before my hilux
Image
I was sad to see it go as I had so much fun in it, 6 speed manual sv6

The day I brought the brand new lux home
Image
Was pretty excited at this point 130km on the odo

First mod was getting the front windows tinted to match the rear privacy glass and then uv rating the rears

Image

First time offroad, hawks nest beach and first camping trip too loved it
Image

And then more mods began to make their way onto the rig

Image
This is the day after the snorkel went on pretty stoked with it especially the new sound it made when loaded up and then backing off the acc, first time on Stockton beach for the new rig, as you can see I bogged it too. first time :D
Image

I've also recently installed a 3" exhaust from the turbo back, good investment for anyone interested all I can say though is don't expect big gains. Runs more freely and doesn't sound constipated at 2000rpm anymore. Fuel consumption improved too
Will post more soon

Looks very clean and tidy mate!
What in car 7" did you go with? I have a Dec2010 model and with the canopy on the back I can't see jack so have been thinking about getting one. Are you happy with yours?
Why not? Have a go!
If all fails it's only money...

Thanks Jono, I had a camera connected to the factory screen for a while it was fine but then I got bored with it and installed a sony touch screen that I had installed into my sv6 for 2months before I sold it. Reasoning for the change was the DVD player and better Bluetooth no more echo :) but there are heaps of other features too. Only downside is I lost the steering wheel controls but I don't mind too much now
And now I can actually see a lot clearer behind me

Very nice mate! Basiicly like mine!
As for the steering wheel controls, their are harness's that you can buy so you can use your controls again.

It's a Sony xplode xav-70bt av centre it's 4years old now, the first was replaced under warranty because I hit a pot hole when I was running my 20" rims on the sv6 and the CD player was on, started to skip ever so slightly.
Got a brand new replacement, it sat in the box for 2 years.

Running navteq maps
Has av ins and outs I have never got around to connecting the play station to it but the DVD player is high quality. I don't miss the controls too much, I mainly only ever used the mode button for the temp and fuel read outs although it would be nice to have it back again

No dramas with this one :D

Went to hawks nest beach today, ripper day for it and the water was a good temp so all in all a good day
Went back to camp and thought I would take some photos of the rig with most of the gear hanging off it
I have had my ARB awning for 6months now and today was the first setup. Really happy with it and it is a perfect size

One of camp at mungo brush with the family and friends

Really need to start using the car more than I do, but trying to find time is painful
lift and some lights and I think I will have reached my goal but I don't think it will finish there

Hey guys, I haven't posted much on the build lately as not much has happened apart for some mods on the UHF and 12v outlets. I am currently having a lot of trouble deciding on leaving it as a ute or buying a canopy for it :( decisions decisions.
I'm happy to tow a trailer, it's more the limited room on campsites that's turning me off using one any advise would be appreciated.

I did go camping up at one mile beach last weekend with some family and friends, had a blast and got to try out our new tent. We decided to buy the black wolf turbo 300 plus in canvas definitely impressed. Even had some decent wind and rain it held up perfectly.
This was a 2 day trial run before our bigger trip that we are going on at Christmas so pretty stoked with our choice.

Hey guys..
I finally decided to tackle the rear seat mod, I honestly don't know why I took so long getting around to it. There is heaps of room behind the seat I even thought of leaving the seat out completely, it's 900mm wide back there with the seat out. Might still go down that avenue :D

Here are some photos of the process
Image

Image

Image

I bought a luggage net from supercheap 1m x .5m $20 clipped it in and used cable ties to fit the rest of it, turned out good.
I have a few things back there now which is handy as .

I'm thinking of buying another and clipping it across all my grab handles on the roof as another fellow hilux driver on here has done :) Credit to him

For anyone interested the rear seat mod is a great addition to the dual cab, highly recommend it here's the link for those keen to have a go viewtopic.php?f=13&t=3578

I even got around to fixing that bloody rattle the back seat would make when I have passengers sitting in the rear

Hey guys, quick update here are some more photos of my build. Consisting of my dual battery setup, UHF location, upgraded head unit and some small storage additions

Image
Ctek d250s with a 100Ah stowaway sealed battery

Image
GME Tx3500 installed in my glove box with Velcro, and extended the mic outlet to the dash below

Image

7" DVD head unit with heaps of plug ins, sat nav and good Bluetooth
Image

$20 trunk net from super cheap, great for keeping stuff off the floor. Got the idea off a fellow member :) cheers
Image

This is where I keep my fridge when we go on trips, I utilise the seat belts to keep it from moving around.
Image

I have installed twin outlets on both sides of the rear seat, a little bit of overkill but I would rather be looking at it, than
looking for it
Image

We just got back from our week away camping at south west rocks, we had a blast but not so much when it came to packing the car to head there and back. Although Tetris is fun, it's painful when trying to pack for a trip so I'm currently looking at buying a canopy for my ute. Looking at 3-4 canopies. the new razorback fibre glass canopy with lights, demister, and central locking ect. Flexiglass sport/crossover Or the alpha gse-l. Any input would be appreciated.

That mic is designed to plug into the front of the tx3500 unit as well as the back, there is a little rubber boot that sits over the cable to make it look nice when in the front of the unit. I just drilled a hole in the little knock out 14mm cleaned it up, pushed the little boot in to the hole so that it clipped into it, as it would if it were in the front of the unit itself.
