That being said the newer common rail diesel are using a different breed of medals and are able to reach higher temp un like the older diesel. I have seen a d40 come in before with 800deg std temps, with tuning it drop right down to a safe level.
We have been pushing these 1kd and so far with no problems and good results that being said only time will tell. I'm a big believer that they will be fine but that's my own opion based on working on these engine for years. I have seen many 1kd that have blown and all where std so I can see why they could get a bad name.
Take the Nissan patrol zd30 people believe it's a weak engine but the problem they had was with the air flow meter not the engine. We have pushed them by hard and they never missed a beat just the common rail side of this with Bosch system is very weak. 250rwhp on 35inch tyres. All I can say is Chips are bad unless they have been checked on a Dyno and that TUNING is the key to safe reliable power.

Bigs1976 wrote:Thanks Roo. Diesel Care have recently developed a module with a 'boost box" to handle the spool up speed with the 3" exhaust. I think warning lights were a problem in the past with the 3" exhaust prior to the new module with the boost box. I'm also considering an intercooler from PWR and possibly a radiator too. With the truck being 500kg heavier (unloaded) than when I picked it up she's quite a lot slower. I'm hoping the chip, exhaust and intercooler will bring back to standard feel if not better...

The problem with a lot of 3" dump pipes out there, is that they are straight through, without having a step. The newer turbos need a bit of back pressure to operate correctly.
