Central locking for tailgate - Mod

Central locking for tailgate - Mod

Postby Steve9R on Tue, 04 Nov 2008 6:26 +0000

Well.. due to some new mods im doing with my truck, i decided to tackle the problem of the 'lack of locking device' on the rear tailgate..

i decided to wire it into the central locking (those of you who've been on newhilux for a couple of years will remember i did the same thing for the rear hardlid that i had on the lux too)..

so basically you press your unlock on the remote and it unlocks the tailgate too.. Ive used 2 x standard 12v central locking modules a couple of long bolts that i cross drilled for the wire, and 2 x window lock holders to act as guides for the bolts.. couple of brackets, and run some wire.. and shes done..

Nice...

Is it affected when you install the tail light?

hehe.. nah.. the pic with the bolt sticking through is just to show where it goes..

I set it up so that it just touches the taillight housing on both sides when it bolts closed.. gives about half of the bolt length you can see into the cavity..

Thanks guys... Ive always thought that the Hard Lid's and even canopies security mechanisms of just closing over the tailgate was pretty piss poor.. I know i could break into any lux in about 10 secs with a well placed screwdriver..

if anyone needs more info (where to connect wires to etc), let me know and ill post up more info..

yeah no prob..

I run the two 12v central locking modules in parallel and run the two wires back into the cabin to the centre door pillar on the drivers side..

then splice into the wires for the central locking which are part of that wiring loom..

Ill go and take a photo for you..

You can also connect at the fuse box under the steering wheel.

There are two large black loom plugs - on the left plug the blue and the blue/yellow wire (which are side by side in the centre of the plug) are the central locking wires.

You will need to get the polarity right or the lock button will unlock whatever you are activating and vice versa.

Good luck

Hi there
Fantastic idea. Is it possible to get the full instructions on how and where you hooked it up to save stuffing around.

yeah.. what exactly are you after ? the info is mostly above, the only things i didnt show were the window locks that i used (cause they're in the tailgate on the brackets).. but thats about it.. im sure i could pull the cover off and take some more detailed pics in the tailgate if you need them ?

I wrote a tech article a few years ago on how to do your own central locking for the hard lids.. i then adapted it for the rear tailgate.. pretty simple to do.. have a search through forums for 'central locking' and you'll find it somewhere..
