Has anyone found anything further on this?
All of the conversions I've found won't fit our housings primarily due to the ABS mount being in the way, on the back of the housing (Skyfab, the NZ guy with the MR2 kit, trail tough etc etc.) and the US Tacoma kit (ABS port is on the wrong side of the diff).
The Hoppers kit - not interested in paying $1400 for a couple of laser cut plates ($80), 2 rotors (maybe $250) and some reco calipers with bolts and a couple of hoses.....
Has anyone considered simply putting a Prado rear disc set-up onto the Hilux housing??
After a quick search it looks as though the Hilux housing might accommodate the Prado caliper mount/handbrake drum backing plate? Maybe my search skills are rubbish (quite likely
) but I've spent hours and haven't found anything definitive.
I'm almost to the point of just swapping in a complete Prado rear end (cutting all the 4 link mounts off and welding leaf perches on) and fitting a Prado handbrake cable set-up. I'd prefer not to go to that extreme but it's looking more likely.
I know there have been many discussions regarding the Hilux drums as being 'just fine' when adjusted etc etc.....but sorry - they are utter rubbish! They endlessly de-adjust and after one or two decent stomps on the pedal, they give you nothing!
I know these problems won't really affect most Lux drivers but I use my TRD to tow the race car plus a lot of gear and occasionally use it to 'sweep' rallies at pretty high speeds - even with the Prado front brakes and good pads, I'm often struggling to pull the thing up, primarily due to massive front bias. On gravel roads it's useless - I have to disconnect the ABS as it makes the the car unbearable to drive.
Surely someone has found the answer by now?
Edit to add: Proportion is a non-issue as I'll simply fit an adjustable bias valve so I can dial it in exactly as I'd like.
Good drivers have dead bugs on the side windows..........
