DP Chip in 1KZ-TE Hilux

DP Chip in 1KZ-TE Hilux

Postby wagon boy on Sun, 15 Dec 2013 5:54 +0000

Hi guys,

I have a '04 lux with the 3.0TD and just got a DP Chip for it. Being that it's only 5 wires, I figured it couldn't be too hard to install. I have the green light coming on with ignition, it blinks with the revs, but the red light never comes on (supposed to be whenever the ute is under load) any ideas what could be wrong. It's doing my head in.

Thanks in advance.

this is for a "chip it" chip

ignore the negative, just run that to the chassis

should be pretty simple. most chips have the same number of cables and do the same thing.

you should have:
12V supply ( can be constant or switched)
ground (anywhere metal on the car)
TPS signal (yours being a 2004 would have the electronic throttle)
Map sensor signal (you can grab it from the map sensor itself but easily accessible from the ECU)
Spill valve (you can wire that at the pump or at the ECU)

Was the DP chip actually made for your car? heard of people having problems buying second hand DP chips and not having much luck.

Yeh was for my car, and I sent it to dp chip to get checked before I fitted it.

I have a wire that goes to pin 28, plug c (TPS I believe), a 12v + and an earth. then there's two wires that go into the bay, one that goes to the pump, and one that goes to the earth, I have it grounded on the pump itself.

sounds like the one thats going to the engine bay thats earthed might be your map sensor wire. the chip needs to see a signal from the map sensor. did it come with instructions or any wiring diagrams?

what you can do is try count the pins out from the picture i posted of where the map sensor cable is. find out what colour it is and find it in the engine bay and give it a test. its pretty tight behind the glove box.

it pretty much needs 3 things for it to work, TPS, map sensor and the spill valve. if its missing any of that, its not going to work.
I'd ring up and confirm the wires you have on the DP chip before proceeding though.
If its got the same wires as the "Chip it" chip then follow that diagram. just remember to earth (negative) it somewhere else not like its marked on the diagram.

Yeh it came with instructions, I followed them to the letter! I'll have to give them another call in the morning. I've gotta say though, they've been absolutely horrible to deal with. Gotta call 10 times just to get through, then no one there knows anything about anything.

They've asked me to send it back again. We spoke on the phone for a while, and all the pins are getting the correct signal, they can't explain it. Bit annoyed as had to do a fair bit of driving over this period, and the extra go would've been nice.

Hopefully have it sorted early new year.

If you can get a dtronic they are easy as to install. It sits above with computer and plugs directly into it.

Hardest part is taking the glove box out.

Can you get a refund?

Nah it came out of an old car. That's probably what annoys me most. It came out of a 1kz surf, into a 1kz lux. When I rang to confirm that everything would be ok, cause I'm going from auto to manual, stock to having a snorkel and exhaust, they said I was best off sending it down to get recalibrated ($170) and now it doesn't seem to be working. The stupid thing is, if you buy a chip off their site, it doesn't ask of you have any mods or trans type.

If anyone wants to know for kzn165r you splice black long wire from dp34 chip to red and black wire on spill valve(the other wire on spill valve is grey) and other wire earthed to pump. The grey wire from chip is spliced to red wire on ecu plug which is on 3rd plug from left and is bottom left wire(28 printed under it). The other 2 wire are power and earth. Dont bother calling dp chip they will not help if chip was second hand like mine. Hope it helps someone
