Hi guys

About to change my tyres and was wondering do I get ATs or MTs

Your info is appreciated

AT's will last longer,give better fuel economy and are quieter on road. MT's look the part and will work better offroad in muddy/ slippery conditions in most cases, it is a personal preference really on what suits your needs

For me and the type of driving I do A/T's are much safer on hard dirt, corrugated roads and wet bitumen - plus they last much longer.

I don't know if this helps but Bridgestone just released the new D697 A/T L/T and from what I have been told this tyre was designed for Australian conditions plus the light Dual Cab trucks in mind.

But if you do a search on hilder91 Hilux it looks dam tough with the M/T,s on it :twisted:

AT's are awersome all rounder tyre.
How ever I got Some 33 MT'S last week awersome off road,on road noisy as all hell use more fuel. They lock up easier too.
I still have my AT's and I want to have a road and play set but changing tyres will be the biggest thing!
How many times you gonna go off-road?
Road to off road % use?

Mate, I went from AT to MT and I'm now on my 2nd set of MT.

The reason why I when with MT is AT are good on road and fairly crap off road (as in its very easy to exceed the traction capable of the AT off road). MT are good enough on road and in the wet however they are great off road and in mud.

The way I see it if I were to use AT on the road to their maximum I would flip my car so I don't need that much grip. the MT are still good on the road.

The main issue I would use an AT over MT is noise but at 110kph I can’t really hear it over the wind and exhaust.

I didn't notice an increase in fuel between tire, maybe .2 of a L.

my bighorns lasted long than my BFG AT so wear isn't an issue for me.

I'm currently running the directional KUMHO MT. I like them. good grip on road. ok noise. great off road on rock and mud.

Id rather the extra performance off road because that is where I want to be.

You could always get a set of MT put them on and if you don't like them you can sell them or run two sets.

Just got a set of these in 265/70/17

only a very slight difference in fuel usage.

I am going to be running an AT 318/80/15 on my alloys and same size but your more aggressive MT on steelies.

I run bfg m/t and l love them. like all off road tyers on wet slipery roads you have to take it easy.Off road there hard to beat. Was thinking about 2 sets on and off road, but too lazy to change them over.

Have a look at Goodyear wrangler duratrac 70% offroad 30% on road.. More of a agressive a/t

I have Bridgestone 697's (AT's) and have done 5000km trip through Gawler and Flinders Ranges in March and now just at the end of 3 month off road trip, done 25000km this trip, including Simpson, Great Central Road, Gunbarrel, Gary and Connie Sue Highways, Gary Junction Road, Canning Stock Route and towed a trailer through the Australasian Safari as Service Car for a race car so have tested them in most situations.
They're a bit worn and only trouble I've had was sliced the sidewall on one in the sharp limestone at Rowlinna.
Having said that MT's do look a lot tougher and have the wank factor - I borrowed my mates 33's Mt and had a horn just looking at my Hilux.
Go for MT's because they look tough.

My MT claws have twice the tread depth of most all terrains anyway, at worst there still gona last 75% as long as an AT if not longer. If ya gona by AT ya may as well find a set that are like 13" wide so they still look pretty sweet. MT atz's for example...

Both - run ATs on your standard rims for everyday use and buy a set of steel rims and MTs to put on for weekends away. I did with my old Rodeo and I had the best of both worlds. I will do this once I find the right set of rims and the right amount of money in my bank account. :x
