just tested ohms on the tps switch and it seems to ramp up/down consistanty. I will disonnect the battery now and try the 24hour thing next. also the local mechanic tried to find fault codes with a snap-on scan tool and it would not communicate with the ECU :/

I changed the leads and plugs, this helped but the flatspot was still there. Checked the timing but it was in good. Cleaned the throttlebody but no difference.
What finaly got rid of it was REPLACING the MAF meter, not just cleaning it!!
Cost around $180 from memory (non genuine). Best bang for you buck I ever got.
