You would have to be a good talker to be able to sell it with the current history/problems as is. I know I couldnt bring myself to by a 4-5yo car thats already had a rebuild, so I doubt others would want to buy it even if you have receipts.

Bad luck, but good luck all the same!

You been talkin to my old man ? That's exactly what he said on the phone earlier haha but I hear what your saying mate best to keep it and move forward with it...

Stick with it Kirk, once its rebuilt its basically new again and 120,000km on the rest of the driveline is nothing and it has all the mods you want.

Mate, just drive it like you stole it, I hear bad stories of engine reliabilty all the time with engines that have been "looked after/careful with". Not just D4D's and Toyotas, it seems to be across the board. I don't mean abuse it, but certainly use it. I let mine idle in the moring only long enough to put my seat belt on and then I'm off, a bit gentle on the throttle and revs at first, ie warm it up under driving conditions. I've got 280,000km on the clock and touch wood (baging my wooden head on the wall :D ) have no problems.

Good luck with it mate.
Cheers Rod

Agree as well, you will either burn money selling it in its current condition or spend that money to fix it and then you know its all sorted properly, as Rod said the rest of the vehicle has done little work.
On the internet you can be anything you want. It is strange that so many people choose to be stupid!

Copy that.... It gets driven like its stolen trust me, it just the initial warm up period as I had knocking injectors when it was cold but after it warmed up well it was a different story... As for now well shit happens

Yea bud ended up fitting 4 new pistons and rings plus bottom end bearings and had the head sent away and checked... Worked out alot cheaper in the long run... When I swung by work this arvo the engine was on the stands having the fly wheel and clutch bolted back on ready to be dropped back in so by the time I finish dicking around with the 2nd filter and some wiring it should be back on the road this weekend or early next week... Fingers crossed

Re: BAT091 LUX - The Bitch Is Back

Postby BAT091 on Wed, 15 Aug 2012 5:59 +0000

Well.... It's back....

I picked up the big girl this afternoon and couldn't be happier, ended up being rebuilt with new injectors, pistons, rods, rings and bearings, also the head was sent away and tested.

In that short period I have..

Fitted a secondary filter
Sold the tx3440 UHF and bought a tx3510
Purchased a steinbauer chip, not yet fitted
Ordered an outback roof console, see that start of next month
Relocated the compressor to an under seat compartment with outlets either side of tray
Removed hid headlights and fitted Philips crystal vision globes
Fitted a redarc in dash electric brake controller

And when I see my tax return I'll be getting

Cal offroad 3" lift kit
Scott's rods 3" exhaust

Possibly a Sprintbooster

Will put pics of compressor install up when I finish fitting the outlets I got today

This is the secondary filter kit the old man go through diesel care in tamworth,
Comes with a stainless bracket that fits snug with the dual battery system and replaces original, all fittings and hoses etc

Drive down to ARB in Newcastle on Friday with a mate to pick some gear for his prado, no sooner then I drove outta the gate the hunka junk threw itself into limp mode... So I limped it back to the grandparents trucking yard at sandgate, went and sorted a car trailer and brought it home that night... Scan tooled it last night and it's thrown code P0340 camshaft position sensor circuit... Will go and test the sensor this Arvo and find out what the F is goin on, a 20l drum of petty and my lighter sounds like a better plan ha
