Bonnet Recall Issue

Postby Zac on Tue, 22 Jan 2008 10:12 +0000

Gday.
Had my bonnet recall done today. Has any one had an issue with bonnet scratches and drill marks visible on top of the bonnet with paint cracks?
It looks like they have done paint touch ups on some of the scratches also.
Does anyone know if they remove the bonnet for this job?

Cheers
Zac.

I have had mine done but there were no issues like that  I would be going back and getting it fixed asap..

Only thing with mine is the bonnet latch is hard to get in and out....I might need to get out the dyna file and make the hole a bit bigger...

I belive they do remove the bonnet so they don't get metal filings throuout your engine bay....(terrible for rust!!)

how bloody heavy is the new support though. I couldn't believe it. Almost lost my hand when I closed the bonnet.

They remove the bonnet and then attach it to a special jig upside down before commencing work. also, they cover the open parts of the bonnet with paper and tape to stop fillings falling underneath the bonnets supports and rusting, plus the extra holes they drill aswell would let fillings fall all over the place.

I'd complain straight away about the scratches, because if done properly,, it shouldnt be there and the dealer must fix it.

It looks like they have taken the bonnet off and put it on a surface which has scratched it in about 10 places .
And it looks like they have tried to touch them up. Badly...
They didnt bother to do anything with the drill marks.

Mine is fine but every now and then when I open it there is something inside that rolls around inside. Next service, they will hear about it.

The only issue apart from the extra weight I have is they left filings or something inside the bonnet internals. It rattels when you open it.. :(

Will be mentioned when it goes back in for the next service.

Rang Toyota first thing this morning they asked me to bring it in.
They had already booked it in for a respray or new bonnet if needed.
I think they already knew about the problem but were just trying to see if they could get away with it.
I guess it should not have happened but I can’t complain about the service.

Thanks for the input.

Does anyone know how long it takes them to do the work? Just had a 80k service with the recall and they charged over $500 want to make sure I'm not paying for the recall labour. They did all the work in less than a day.

i've seen this with servicing mine at toyota, you ask them to fix up an issue that was an obvious fault from manufacture and it is clearly a waranty job and the dealer jacks up the labour charge on the service. maybe take the warranty jobs in seperately and not in on a service schedule,

Hi Jep.
Hope this helps to get rid of your swarf problem. Have you seen the strong magnets that you buy on extendable antenna shafts you can get them at all good auto stores. Use this to push deep into the panels to attract the swarf to the magnet and give it a drenching in Lanolin afterward.
