Out of warranty fixes free by Toyota - Facts only

Postby gruntre69 on Sat, 05 Mar 2011 10:02 +0000

I have this idea to start a precedent thread where we list anyone who has claimed a fault from Toyota out of warranty and they have admitted guilt and paid up.

Maybe we could start another on for in warranty claims (facts only- not discussion)

It could be very helpful for others in the same boat and also for any legal actions down the track that might surface. Especially the injector rattle issue.

It would be good to keep it a clean thread and list facts only not discussion, start discussions about each case on a new thread.

2005 extracab manual D4D

6 years and roughly 220,000

i paid for parts they covered the labor

huebners toyota beaudesert

i snapped 2 of my studs off on the front passenger side wheel and bent the rest,
took it in cause i was close and needed it fix asap, so they replaced all 6 studs ($25 for parts) and nuts(free from local tyre shop :D ) and covered the labor under the recall for the centre bearing which they did at the same time
pretty happy with that :D

How did you manage to snap the studs and bend the rest?

Vehicle year, body type, transmission, engine type: 2007 D/C V6 petrol 4x2

Age and ODO at the time of the claim: 90,000km 4years

Total cost and percentage of cost covered by Toyota: labour

Location of repair and dealer name: Southside Toyota MT Gravatt

Description and details of repair or fault: 3 rear wheel studs snapped off a 4th was half a stud and the 5th was ok but the nut was stripped. The flat bed driver said its not on his head if it falls off going on the truck. Second time three studs snapped off when the tire shop undone the nuts. Both times they did the labour for free and it was $25 for the studs + both times they gave me a loan car and I didnt have to pay for petrol. Best yard ever considering I've 20"s x 10" with 295 20 35s and a drop of 4" with only 2" travel. No wonder they snapped (I think the first tire shop did them up to tight in the first place).

2007 SC Manual D4D

4 Years & 2 Months, 100000 Kms

50% of Water Pump & 50% of timing Belt & 50% of Labour

Martin Jonkers Toyota Morayfield

I rang them today to ask if there was a ongoing problem with the water pumps on this model, and told them i am going to do the belt at the same time even tho its not due for another 50k, and i just asked the question if i could get the pump under some kind of warranty,
Lorna in service rang back after 3 or so hours and said she can get the pump, timing belt and labour for 50% under warranty and i will be up for the other half.
All up its costing me around $366.50 for all this work.
Very happy with the outcome and is booked in next monday

2009 SR5 manual diesel.
Bought 2nd hand @30k
Warranty 60k
Power steering pump and lower rack arm(I think thats what it's called)
Went in shortly after 50k service to get a quiet humming noise looked at that now one but myself and 1 toyota mech could hear. Was told it coming from the power steering pump and it would be ok till the 60k service. Went back in after 2k and complained that the noise was louder. Say story wait till the next service. Only differnce was they tried to blame the new 31" Mickey thompsons and the 4wding the lux had done. I installed a 2inch lift and after a week sent the lux to get a wheel alignment. Tyre guys called me up bout five mins after dropping the lux off and told me the lower rack arm was stuffed in the knuckle. Went to toyota booked it in for a service and they warrantied the pump and arm but told me that my warranty was pretty much gone due to the lift. Happy they turned a blind eye to it this time as the lift was only a wk old and I had the receipt for the lift dated for the week before.

Just done 2 inch lift and 32 inch tyres,
Ballarat Toyota didnt even mention these added goodies
and replaced 100% free at service. Noticed big difference. But

2007 manual dual cab 3l turbo diesel
Purchase date 23/01/08

A couple of claims

Service centre: Martin Jonkers motors Morayfield.

1> 94000. 11/07/11

Warranty claim-Toyota payed in full
Fixed Hilux cross member. Apparently they reinforced by bolt, and replace / install tailshaft mounting brackets.

2> 100027. 06/09/11

Warranty claim- Toyota pay 100% for parts and customer to pay 50% of labour ($150)
Water pump leaking, replace pump and coolant

3> 100500. 02/10/11

Warranty claim- customer to pay 50%
Replaced all 4 injectors
There is a bit of a story behind it but. Think it came down to the fact that I told them about it a few services ago.
@ my 90000km service I reported to them that the vehicle was making a knocking noise when the engine was cold. They told me that I would have to bring it back in for them to have it over night for them to have a listen to it during a cold start and to SET IT UP FOR COLD START. One of the guys there told me that it had to be set up for cold start which I knew was bullshit but I was happy that they were taking the time to have a look at it.

At the time of the claim at 94000 when they fixed the cross member they upgraded the computer and told me that it would fix the knocking problem. IT DIDN'T!!! So at its 100000km service they kept it over night again and done a proper diagnostics test to the motor and analyzed all the injectors. The results came back and the outcome was that there were some discrepancies with the injectors. It was then that Toyota agreed to pay just over Half of the repairs. $1600 later, the problem was fixed. The service department told me that denso is aware of the problem and that the injectors they put in were a better injector and that it would fix the problem.
My car has 130000 on the clock and there is no sign of knocking. So hopefully they have fixed the problem. Hope this helps anyone who has the injector problem.

Vehicle year, body type, transmission, engine type: 2008, Extra Cab, Manual, D4D

Age and ODO at the time of the claim: 3 months, 10000km

Total cost and percentage of cost covered by Toyota: 100% covered by Toyota

Location of repair and dealer name: Castle Hill Toyota

Description and details of repair or fault: Clutch slipping after 5000km, always felt too light. Blew up after they refused to accept blame. They eventually buckled and changed over to a heavy duty clutch kit, apparently genuine, but I doubt that. Been fantastic towing a 2t boat for 100,000kms since.
