i dont think any car company will put a motor with bullshit torque and heaps of power in an IFS vehicle designed for offroad...just destined to break, lets face it, our luxs are fairly flimsy when it come to the driveline and suspension components

although in saying this, the american market has some gnarly engines in their 4wds...like trd tundra and nissan titan

Guys as an "insider" I have to be the bearer of bad news. If you want a v8 diesel ute you will need to stick to the LC70 as there is no word that hilux is getting a new engine anytime soon. If anything they might come to the party in the next model (next year or so) with a 3.0l v6 diesel to match the market.

So where do you sit, as an insider, Port Melbourne?
I am not being rude here, just like to know what that means, that's all.
I think what will happen is that TMC will stick with the 1KD-FTV for a while in the Hilux.
They will probably change a few things, like a front mounted intercooler, and go to a particulate filter system for the new Euro emission laws.
That's just my guess.
To install a V8 into the Hilux, would take a total rethink of nearly all components. This is not going to happen as TMC are paying off the biggest fine in US history, to do with safety breaches, anyway.
People died.
Development has pretty well stalled in recent years and into the future, because of problems like this.
I am not an insider, just putting two and two together, that's all.

Believe me, you guys don't want a Tundra...that's just an elephant....not even close, agility wise to the Hilux, heavy, too wide and a gas guzzler. We have both Hilux, Amaroks and Tundras in the Dominican Republic, for 4x4 wheeling I would not trade my Hilux for either of the other two.
From what I have seen and read, in Australia, forest tracks are not wide, same as here...so a Tundra is worthless.

As an insider I'm referring to "dealership management" and you spot on about redevelopment of WHOLE car, suspension, diffs, axles, etc. etc. and would kill the LC70 twincab market.

It's nice to dream tho..

What is mentioned to media, and what happens in the end, 2 different things, but this is a big possibility...

I would much prefer a straight six turbo diesel.

Next model should be impressive, there is a lot of competition now

Toyota not spending money because they are paying off the debt for fines in the US?? Are you kidding? That's chicken feed in comparison to their international profits over many years. Dr. Toyoda has that in his ash tray.
New Hiluxs expected 2015 & will be 3.0L + in size and match Ranger in size & spec. Will again be benchmark in the market even though the now 8+ year old model almost outsells its nearest volume competitor(Triton) 2:1 in Oz.
Don't expect a V8 or even a V6 TD in Hiluxs, we saw how many Navara V6 TD they sold at around $70k, 6 I think. Lol.

Seen this on the net, i know its a 2015 tacoma but theyre very similar in size to our hilux

The 70 was dead as soon as BHP and Rio announced going to 5 star ANCAP. The FJ is also now dead.

Eventually, Toyota will have to upgrade the hilux and that is going to result in increased power and torque to compete with Ranger / BT 50. Whether that means a new engine or the same is the real question. A new engine can't be too many years away as we seem to be at the upper limit of power/torque for the current D4D.

Saw an ad in last weeks paper advertising tundras at one of the local dealers, $130000........
