Well you guys have confused me thats for sure , I have a SR with ADD / without ADD stuffed if I know

I did have a 1993 - 2.8 Hilux with a Lock-Rite in the front , it was in there for the 14 years I had the lux and 200000 K , never a problem and worked really good

If I could of got one for my current Lux I would of , but all I could get at the time was Air Lockers and I have front and rear .

They have been out 3 times for oil seals , its a long story but they are working now , still piss oil , but work

The Lock-Rite in my 2.8 if I drove in 2wd with the hubs locked , which I did most of the time anyway ,because I owned a Dairy farm up until 18 months ago , when I was in town at low speed on round abouts , tight turns on bitumen , yeah I could tell through the steering that the locker was there , but it wasn't that bad

But I would NOT install one in the rear , I know of at least 3 blokes that have ,one was a HiLux and removed em , they were a bastard on the bitumen

So I dunno about the new Lux's and the front diff , if they do fit em I think I would be wanting to drive one first before I committed , let someone else be the guinea pig

I had a similar discussion a while back; apparently the SR doesn't have ADD; therefore the drive shafts, diff and front prop shaft all spin even in 2wd. I don't know how this would affect fitting a lokka diff-lock to the front.

ive been doing some research talking to people who have had these and some swear by them others really complained about the on road characteristics even just the rear fitted ive been giving it some serious thought and i think for the price there a good buy but there not for every 1. after last sundays 4x4ing i have decided i do need a locker and sliders which are on order (factorys crumpled) but which locker? i do like the idea behind this locker but i think id rather not loose my on road handling, i also read an artical in a mag about beefing up the lsd from standard 40lb torque to about 90lb it is a real improvement over factory and it costs about 200-400 depending on if you remove the diff center yourself, also another handy hint is when ya do lift a wheel pull on the hand brake to even up the clutch packs in the diff it will give you some extra foward motion due to the even distrobution of torque. im now more keen on the ARB air locker

I think tightening the factory rear lsd and getting a front air locker would be the best setup for our utes.

also the handbrake method does work but little quick pulls not actually leaving it on. it has saved me on a couple of occassion front being snatched.

I'll be running a Detroit in the rear and Truetrac in the front. As has been said though, rear auto lockers are not for everyone. You have to learn how to drive all over again. But it you want 100% locked up reliable drive from your rear diff and no wires or air lines to worry about then they are the go. I've got then in 3 cars now and I swear by them. Never had one in a front diff, probably never will. I can't see how they wouldn't be a pain in the @r$e.

Just got an email reply from 4wd systems regarding the hilux lockers...I asked him about a front auto locker,
here's the reply-

Hey Mmaaxx.
You need a ADD front end to make an auto locker work in the front diff. The SR just isnt equipped to do it. You would fight the steering all the time even on road in 2wd.
If you wanted to put a Lokka System into your Hilux make sure you lock the back first.
For the following reasons.
Cheapest to install.
Most effective.
Strongest.
Will work in 2wd. (Auto Locker)
I guess it comes down to basic enginnering.
The front diff is like a piece of spaghetti, the rear is like a paddlepop stick.

This topic has been thrashed on many forums. I was thinking front since you still have the lsd rear. even if its an air locker?

I think it depends on the type of 4WDing you do. You also need to determine what style of traction aid you ultimately want. I wouldn't put an auto locker in the front because sometimes I do high speed, slippery mud driving and certainly don't want my steering hampered.
If your rear LSD actually works and you can only afford one traction aid and you drive more on road than off then a manual locking diff like ARB, Ox or Pro Locker in the front would be your best move. If you ever decide to replace your rear LSD (and lets face it, it's not a Patrol or Subaru LSD so it won't work for long) you can either duplicate the one you have or choose something completely different.
If your rear diff is open, I would put the first traction aid there. You will get more use out of it. Still, people driving terrain that I am not familiar with might disagree.
I like to run a Trutrac in the front (which is a geared LSD, not a difflock) and a auto locker in the rear. If I did mostly highway driving like my hotrodded silver 79 series turbo I would run twin Trutracs. Sadly, the Trutrac is not available for the rear diff.

Really dunno about this front or rear problem?? Rear is heaps easier to install and available very soon. Do they really effect daily driving that much apart from wanting to straighten up??

By the way, once the lokkas are in stock the deal is invalid...

Hey Mmaaxx.
You have bought top shelf gear. An ARB Front Locker.
Its up to you. Make a decision based upon the improved off road performance from the ARB front end.

I love the air lockers from ARB.

Too pricey for me though and my off road driving doesn't really require locking differentials.

guys quick question
will the front lokka only lock when in 4x4 with the add diff? and the SR's stay locked unless turning?
