Just been on the phone to 4WD Systems in South Australia. A couple of me mates have just organised a group buy of their Lokka Diff Lock and I thought Id inquire about my hilux aswell.....not wanting to be left behind when out offroading by the others....LOL

Anyway, the bloke there said that they are bringing one out for the current shape hilux very soon, in the new year.

Just thought Id let you guys know....I will more than likely get one....and he also said that they are easier to fit than previous hilux diffs because the diff centre has a split casing or something along those lines which makes it easier to remove the spiders gears.

The key to the LOKKA's smooth performance is a function of the extremely low profile "driver and coupler" gear sets acting together with the advanced mechanical principal which causes the dynamic engagement and disengagement of the axles. In addition LOKKA's design allows it to relock almost instantaneously meaning that the locking and relocking happen quickly and without harsh noisy action.

I used a Lockright in my Bundera previously and it's good.

Of course mine was the first generation of diff locker so it was crude.

It was reliable and effective.

Me mates are getting theirs for about 440bux each - 1 94 hilux, and 2 60series cruisers.....not sure what the new hilux one will cost, but i am on his notification list so as soon as they get info, they'll let me know.

Self install, (what about removing the LSD bits?. Easy enough for a non mechanic to do?). Quiet. Price? Front end? With ADD in the SR5 it would be OK to fit a auto locker like these in the front, I think.

Read a write up in 4wd action about the lockrite locker fitted to the front of a Patrol. They said it was pretty good in low range stuff but was a bit brutal in high range 4wding. Heavy steering, and fighting to turn it etc. Which would probably pop the CVs after a while.
In the rear. The lockrite replaces the clutch packs in the LSD with spring loaded cam system, but it keeps the original Toyota Spider.
The Arb system replaces the whole center, adds two extra gears (planetry gears) to the spider making it stronger. The hilux centre has two, the Arb centre has 4. Also has up spec'd shaft diameters. Which is why the cost of fitting is higher as backlash, toe and heel adjustments have to be made on the crown wheel and pinion. Probably why there is such a huge price difference between the two. I could be wrong but this is what I am lead to believe.

Just bought one for my Maverick, the price has just gone up to $599 delivered. Cheap truck, cheap locka I would not put one of these in the front of my Lux. Does'nt the front of the SR models stay connected so this locker is going to be doing funny things all the time` (TOMUCH ?). Interesting 4wd systems are doing one for our Lux wounder if they have done there homework, time will tell I guess.

they will be doing a rear one.....cant do a front one due to the ADD setup.

Hey guys, I have not seen one of these, nor looked too closely at them, but I just dont like the feel of a front locker that cant be disconnected for onroad use, especially if you cant disconnect the front hubs.

tomuch, nobody said they were doing a front one....only a rear one.

I too dont think a front one can be done without a free wheeling hub conversion.

I received another email from 4wd systems yesterday saying that they are thinking about a front locker,

that the ADD is only on the SR5 and not the SR.....

can somebody confirm that here b4 I start asking my connections?

I thought they all had ADD now?

Surely a company like them would have done their research yeah?

MMAAXX, , Yes I think you are right... ADD is only on the SR5s, unless the new models 08 0n come with it.. anyone with a new new hilux??

Max, sorry to be an ignoramus; what's ADD? Also, I've been told that the front end isn't really up to diff locks; i.e too weak. Live front end would be the go wouldn't it?!!!

ADD stands for auto disconnect differential.

It's similar to automatic free hubs. It frees the front hubs when you go to 2H and locks the front hubs when you engage the transfer lever to 4H or 4L.

I think ignoramus is a derivative of ignorant, ie one who is ignorant! Like me! Getting back to ADD; is my front drive shaft always spinning regardless of being in 2 or 4 wd ? Or, is the front diff automatically disconnected from the hubs when in 2wd (I've got a 2008 sr manual) Bear in mind I'm used to an old troopy!

If you do not have ADD (I think only SR5 in OZ has ADD) your front shaft will spin regardless if you are in 2H, 4H or 4L.

The ADD is one feature that toyota don't seem to disclose in their specs between the SR and SR5. I have a 12/07 SR. Brendon is right, ADD is not fitted on the SR so there is no freewheeling acion of any kind on the front wheels of the SR. You have to replace a fair bit to fit freewheeling hubs, there is a US kit that allows you to do this but it is pretty expensive. Some say it might be worth the expense as you do get a return via better fuel economy in 2WD... not to mention less wear on drive train... The SR with this modification would be superior to a SR5 with ADD as less weight in the drive train turning = less wear and better fuel economy. With ADD the drive shafts are still turning, with freewheeling hubs, they aren't.

Pretty poor of Toyota to return us to the bad old days of constant drive front axles, I reckon when my Suzi Vitara had auto locking freewheeling hubs that worked a treat!
