Should i hang out for the new style hilux im after a cab chassis SR cause im getting a custom tray. any news out there reckon they will put a different motor in it other than the D4d? reckon the SR's 4x4 will change much

No one really knows man, theres a thread about the next model on here with everyone speculating everything. I'd stick to the current one if I were you, never know what problems a new model could have.

the new one wont be out till mid year, so buy a current model

It's a bit hard to give a definitive answer to this question as so much depends on your personal circumstances.
Is your current vehicle doing the job for you at the moment or is it an older one that will need repairs shortly?
Do you have enough funds to purchase a new vehicle or would it mean going into debt? If you kept the current (paid off) model for a year or more could you save enough to pay for a new one then?
Do you want a specific feature that the new model may have, such as a bigger engine or increased safety features?
When the new model comes out say mid next year you will have the last model vehicle that is only six to eight months old and how will that affect the resale price of that vehicle when you want to replace it.
Do you think that new models have a break in period after which any problems that may arise have been sorted out by the manufacturer? Seems to me that Toyota have only recently managed to sort out the current model problems after some years.

So many questions that only you can provide the answers to.

In my case I have a 96 LN 106 2.8 diesel that has 230000 K on the clock. I am waiting for a new model to see the engine specs as I tow a boat and the 2.8 struggles to manage 90kph in a headwind or up hills.
The safety features on the LN 106 are non existent in comparison and the cabin comforts are primitive but it does serve well and is very reliable as a daily commuter. Gets 9l/100 around town.

In about 2 to 3 years I will have saved enough to buy an SR5 and the trade in for the 106 will pay for some accessories although I will be sad to see it go.

Good comments, but it is annoying the way Toyota is dragging the chain on this?!
Must be losing sales to brands like the Mazda BT50/Ford Ranger, which have heaps more towing capacity, cabin comforts and safety features.
Like everyone I'm waiting patiently and thankful that the current (08) model Hilux continues to serve me faithfully!

I have been told by the saleperson who sold my Hilux to me, October 2015 is when the new Hilux is coming, slightly bigger in design, and 3 new engines. A slightly bigger Diesel motor, no, the Landcruiser motor will not be finding it's way intot he Hilux engine bay

sounds about right. Toyota told us in the 2nd half of next year for the hilux. pretty sad that the Camry is only a few years old but is getting replaced before the hilux

Hi guys, In the same position looking to upgrade at some stage next year from my 05 SR D4D manual dual cab which has been a great car but getting up there in km's and in a quandry what to do. I find the size of the current shape just about perfect whereas the ranger/bt50 is a far larger vehicle, almost too big. Looking at various 'spy' shots and reading threads on here it appears the new model hilux is heading down the same path of 'big is better'- good or bad depends on personal preference.
As for power the current model has more than enough for my needs, having owned each model from the old 2.8d through to the non-turbo 3.0d the D4D goes like a rocket ship compared to its older siblings. I'm sure the new model will be up on power and torque to help the fight against its competitors, which is a good thing I guess although as I said above i find the current model to be fine in the power department.
I'm sure when the new model arrives toyota will have a significant price increase which will push the car well above the sub 50k mark that they are currently advertising them for at present.
To summarise- new model bigger/more powerful?? or the current model, like an old friend, with the new car smell but would be an 'old' model in 2015.
So do I wait for the new design? Thats the $50,000 question...

I'm happy with the old engine and drivetrain. (Have a 2014 SR5). I don't need more power, and I certainly don't want more emissions gear. All in all the 2014 model might be sought after if Toyota goes too complex with the new model. The simplicity of the current is what I find attractive.

That's how my thoughts are leaning towards, singlespeed...

When the D4Ds first come out people were wingeing that they are to complex with safety features and more computer controlled. Same goes with the cruisers, if you had a 1hdfte 6 cylinder cruiser it was the bomb, they were ment to be better then the v8s cause of the simplicity. Now people are used to them and understand how the work like them. It will be the same with the next hilux and cruiser

Unless there's a feature the new ones are supposed to have that you really want just get a current model.

Not arguing that, but it will be many years until that level is comfort is felt wit the new platform. And if it's a DPF then good luck with it.
