dropped off the receipts tonight for reimbursement for having to pay for my clockspring myself before they finally came out with a recall.
Hope they don't try and do the dodgy on me

The potential issue is that I didn't fix it using a genuine clockspring, as $165 compared to $600+ was all I could do at the time

The difference is gen to non gen is the Toyota clock spring terminals have 20 microns of gold plated on them to guarantee contact. As the air bag is a critical component.

Just got the clockspring recall letter last week. Partner got a letter for her lux as well.
Her lux is an 06 - airbag light has been on for the last 2 years + she never bothered taking it in for the centre drive shaft support bracket recall either after having the that letter for a couple years and despite warning her what hammering it off road over corrugations could lead to  Booked in for both recalls now
Mines an 07 - no warning light. Will take it in once its back on the road

Recently got my recall letter for the clock spring in my 2005 lux. I'd already forked out the cash to have it replaced. I bought the genuine part and had my mate fit it. I took the recall letter and my receipt for the part in to the local dealer about 7 weeks ago. All they did was check that the new spring was the right batch, then they put a claim in to head office.
Well just picked up a cheque from Toyota today to cover the cost of the part. Cheerin!!!

Just seeking some clarification from those who might know
My lux came out with the base level clockspring, only with enough plugs for the airbag and horn. I changed to a higher spec clockspring when I went aftermarket to get the extra plugs for stereo controls etc.

I've now got the extra controls in and all working, but am concerned if I get the recall done they'll just throw in whatever clockspring the VIN number refers to and leave the steering wheel controls disconnected.

Boxhead?

Yes this would be the case. But if you explain what you have done the duel outlet squib or audio squib is not part of the recall unless the srs light is on. So they will... well should! inspect and find ok and no further action required.

So basically, if the current clockspring (aftermarket) isn't broken, so won't change it unless it's to the basic clockspring?

I got the letter. But I had my clock Spring replaced a few years ago by Toyota under good will already as the light presented. It was well known issue at that time. Surely that means mines already got updated parts ?

I have been sent 2 letters by Toyota about the recall over the last year, havnt had a chance to get it done yet. I don't have any warning lights so I'm not too fussed yet.

It could've just been replaced with the same defective part meaning it'll just fail a few years down the track... worth dropping it in for the day to see what happens. They might not do anything and that's fine too. It's on their dime anyway ;)

Have a 2007 Hilux, bought 2nd hand, had the clock spring replaced in march 2014 - genuine Toyota part by a pvt auto electrician.

Got the recall letter last week (said it was the 3rd letter, but the first I actually got as the current owner) - booked it in with dealer and explained that I had had it fixed the month before the recall. One call to Toyota and all is fine, the dealer checked that the replacement part I had installed was correct - it was, and they are processing a refund for the cost of my third party fix.

Even if the pvt fix wasn't right Toyota said they would still make it right and refund the cost of the pvt fix, couldn't ask better than that. Thumbs up :}

pretty much identical to me. except toyota replaced it not a private auto leccy. At the time (around early 2014 I think) they said it was a known fault and replaced it with genuine toyota as a good will out of warranty gesture.

so im wondering whether i will bother checking her in.

I guess if it goes bad in the next few years and the light comes back on, ill just drop down anyway, as there's no shelf life on the recall offer anyway? (legally they cant, safety issues are pretty strictly controlled in favour of consumer?)
