I just rang my local toyota dealer here in townsville, they said they are just getting all the parts in now and will have letters sent out within 2 weeks. Its not overly urgent unless your airbag light is on (in that case take straight to toyota).
So just wait until you receive a letter then go from there. She also said if I don't get a letter after 2 weeks, contact the dealership.

Hope this helps everyone :)

Called up my local dealer and they said they weren't going to accept any appointments till they get the parts and the letters go out (fair enough). A call to Toyota Australia said that the letters will be out mid-May to June.

I'll try call other dealers around that time to see if they have parts - given that my airbag indicator light is on.

9 months? mate you should've just taken it in when it first came on, toyota will replace it for free no matter how old your ute is or how many kms its done. recall or no recall

Obviously letters won't reach 2nd or 3rd owner vehicles.
What I want to know, is will they still replace it if its got an aftermarket unit in there like a lot of hiluxes do.
I'll wait a couple of weeks before talking to the dealership though. I know what it will be like over the next couple of days, hundreds of people ringing up and dropping in asking the same questions, demanding things etc.. They will just feel like telling me to f*** off! Plus as noted above, parts will take a while to flow in.

Hey Mitch
Just on the letter, I received a letter about the drive shaft issue and i'm atleast the 3rd owner that I know of...so you should get one, they must go off your rego or something...had only owned mine for a little over 12 months and the letter turned up...05 model with previous owners and I bought it in 2011, they still found me...

Yep, they go via rego - at least, that's what the guy at Toyota Australia said. So as long as your car is registered to your home address, it'll get to you.

the letters are due to go out around June July. the part is revised item. if you have previously had to pay to replace the item with genuine whether full price or part payment if warranty has covered part of it if you have your receipt somehow Toyota is going to reimburse you. if you aernt original owner or have moved etc a call to your local Toyota dealer they can log into Toyotas system & update the owner details. we have been getting heaps of calls & using the vin updating owner details so when letters go out you receive one.

If the recall affects a safety item such as airbag, then toyota should replace the clock spring irrelevant if over 6 yrs or 200,000kms you would think!

Yes they will....we were talking about 2 different things, the recall, and before the recall, you could apply for what's called a goodwill warranty claim. That's where the 6 years or 200k rule comes in.

when i purchased my Hilux 2nd hand (06 model). I never checked if any recalls had been completed. Can i give Toyota my details so they can check this foe me and keep me updated?
If they were not done, will they still do the outstanding ones or will i need to pay?

Here is the Gov recall link

http://www.recalls.gov.au/content/index ... Id/1057694

Scroll down then open the "Toyota Sprial Cable" PDF to check your VIN

It is interesting to note that some vehicles of the same date of manufacture are not affected?

Maybe Boxhead could answer that curly one? Sorry pardon the Spiral cable pun!
