Was just quoted $525 for the denso snorkel from Penrith Toyota, plus $390 to fit it. Might have to get it from ebay and fit it myself.

How easy is it to get a hole saw large enough and anyone know how much it would cost?

I don't use hole saws any more. I use a pilot hole and then curved tin snips.

Thanks Boxhead, I would have thought the steel in the guard would have been too thick to do that easily

that's not quite cost price. at the time dealers could buy them at a special price. cant now though

so in saying that Bathurst Toyota on ebay got 6 of these left $415 delivered to your door. once them 6 are gone its back to normal price around $500

Annnd purchased. Said I'd leave the snorkel for a lil' later but you can't argue with that price.

Any recommended fitters in Sydney? I'm out near Peter Warren but I expect to be ripped by them :| I don't mind a bit of a drive out for it.

If you're out near Liverpool way then I'll recommend my mechanic - RnR Automotive. They installed my snorkel. They don't have a nutsert tool so they'll just use a rivets. Make sure they use stainless steel rivets though or else it'll rust. It'll take a couple hours so it's not bad. Plus, they now have experience after doing mine haha. Tell them the guy in the brown hilux referred you ;)

No, but it does fit, you just need a different bit of tube on the air filter housing.

Took a gander and called up Peter Warren's Toyota Service Centre in Liverpool. Got a hold of someone after being hung up on...quoted $750 to install.

I hope the guy misheard me and meant "$750 to supply and install"...

EDIT: got a much better price at Western Toyota in Guildford - $260. The person who answered the phone had absolutely no idea what part I was going on about even though I said I could quote her the part number. Might head to your suggestion, Vylen, if Western Toyota falls through!

Yea, Peter Warren can be a rip when it comes to services. But they're alright when it comes to parts and spares. I actually bought my snorkel from them after a whole bunch of calling around. It was at the same price as the dealers on eBay (After accounting for shipping) at the time - can be surprisingly good at times haha.

Parts-wise, they're alright (for Toyota, anyway). My mate owns a Jeep and they would only allow him to buy clips in bulk. They do get a bit pissy when you don't have your VIN ready though

Headed down to Western Toyota about an hour ago to book a service plus the snorkel and bonnet protector installation. As many of the others have experienced, they don't believe anything about the DENSO being genuine Toyota - he had his spreadsheet open in front of me and the HiLux snorkel had a completely different part number. Told him I could quote him the part number, but he couldn't (wouldn't?) do a parts look up on it - he was simply referencing his spreadsheet.

Luckily, I had called earlier in the week and I told him that, and that I was quoted $260 by them. To my surprise, he obliged and said "oh, you already have a quote from us? No worries, that should be fine." and wrote it down! Should've said I was quoted $200

Not too confident that it'll be installed though. I told him about my issue with the bonnet protector (the car was recalled in '07 and was fitted with a reinforcement plate which covers the bonnet protector installation holes) and he said that if they can't install it, they'll just put it in the car for me. So, I expect that on Wednesday I'll come home with a serviced car but no parts install. We'll see though.

Really gotta find a decent Toyota Service Centre or mechanic for the 'Lux in NSW :|

I'm going to install mine on the weekend.

Is it advisable to use any kind of lubrication on the hole saw?
If so, I have silicone spray lube, WD4 or inox, would any of them be OK?

Cheers

What do you know, just got a call from Western Toyota. "I'm sorry, the person who told you we can install that was incorrect, you'd have to go to ARB or someone to install it."

The catch? The person who called me was the same person who told me they could install it.

Trying my luck with Clintons Toyota this time for the sole reason that they're out near where I work. At this rate, I should just go to a fourby store or do it myself.

That's just ridiculous - and like, the box comes with TOYOTA branded instructions and everything... like c'mon, that's how my mechanic installed it, they just followed the clear and concise TOYOTA instructions. Heh.

Ahh man, I was pretty peeved about it, especially 'cause I pushed for them to triple-check that they'd be able to install it prior to booking. Booked the bonnet protector to be installed along with a service with them today as well and mentioned that the 'Lux had been fitted with a reinforcement plate over the original mounting holes from the recall in '07...they said "yep, all good, we'll be able to do it", and confirmed today when I dropped off the car. We'll see.

Clintons Toyota was a lot more confident and did mention that DENSO makes Toyota's snorkels, so here's hoping. I'll have to make sure to convert my garage space into a workshop in future to eliminate these hassles.
