Denso snorkel now available for hilux

Postby carjos on Wed, 23 Mar 2016 7:33 +0000

Done mine today, 7mm hole in pillar and 11 in panel, I went 10 and it was fine.
Best assets were an auto centre punch, good quality left turn tin snips (not Supercheap auto ones!! Didn't think they would be so terrible straight off the shelf, luckily had some sidchrome ones I thought were straight but were actually left), eBay nutsert tool and step drills

No worries mate, took it for a bit of a drive today seems to be a bit punchier around town, wife thinks so too so it's not just me being over excited with my new toy, and going to the beach tomorrow so will see how it goes with the economy. Photos don't do them justice either

Denso snorkel now available for hilux

Postby carjos on Sat, 26 Mar 2016 5:52 +0000

Took it for a good drive yesterday (550 or so k's) didn't seem any better or any worse on fuel but it was a shit of a road, hilly most of the way. Went for a quick spin into town and back tonight (60ks) and got back down to 8.7lts/100km which I rarely see without a long highway drive so that's good, giving it a reasonably hard time too. 114ks and barely moved from the full mark is something I don't remember seeing for a while either and only filled it half way up the filler tube. Went for another good drive yesterday and got down to 8.4lt/100ks. 8.2 is the best I've ever seen it do and that was the day I picked it up

Does The Kit come with the nutserts or do you need your own nutserts and nutsert gun?

Hi, I posted elsewhere asking if you could confirm the part for the 2013 model KUN26 fits exactly with the 2009 KUN26.
I was quoted, today $321 for the ram head snorkel and $260 fitting. By a Sydney, NSW dealer.
(A country Victorian dealer said nah it's not listed for 2009 and its $900 anyway).

I think just because a factory snorkel was not offered on the 2009, it's not listed as a part for it. But in my non-technical generalist view, is not the engine and air on set up the same on both models, and what about front guard and pillar alignment....

Does someone know? Thanks.

Thanks guys :D It's a big YES.

The Densoautoparts lists both the ramhead and the precleaner version. Western Toyota sells them on line.

I took a punt a few days ago and ordered one via Fergusons Toyota in Hurstville, NSW as I was planning to visit there.

$321 inc GST plus $305 fitting - they upped it form their usual $260 as they hadn't done a 2013 Denso snorkel onto a 2009.

So - end result - awesome fit and looks great. Can't recommend Fergusons enough on this one.
Thanks folks

I noticed today when cleaning my car that my Denso snorkel has noticeably changed colour. The grill over the ram is still dark black, but the body has gone a bit grey, considering it's only two years old, I'm wondering if they're not as UV stabilised as they claim, or if it's just mine, and I need to crack out some Armour-All.

There's 10% off eBay wide at the moment... Just the excuse I needed to snap one up from Bathurst Toyota. Also they seem to be becoming a bit scarce!

Hi all - has anyone got the install manual for these?

I'm looking to remove my airbox and seal some of the splay rivets (thanks DeadlyBeast) and check the status of the one-way valve. Positive it's an easy-as job but would like something to reference off.

Will there be any problem disconnecting the inlet duct from the airbox and resealing with the existing o-rings/rubber seals?

Tried the plastic-bag-over-the-snorkel-head trick months ago and it didn't affect the motor at all so I'm trying to search for leaks (or, the bag had a hole - or, the rain exit points?). I've had water over the bonnet for an extended period of time (20s-1m) with no issues though so wary about touching it at all.

Also, I noticed that my foam strip on the inlet duct is split. Will this cause problems?

Cheers!
