Interesting they are doing that I can understand they do not sell as many of the petrol models compared to diesel. But would any of you that own a diesel and experienced problems such as injectors, fuel trouble and so on consider the petrol model next time. I'm not bagging diesel at all as my first hilux was a 2.8l and loved it.
They just seem to have costly faults do the pros out way the cons.

I wouldnt get a diesel next time. Yes, they are torquey and fuel efficient......but Im over that.

each to their own. Happy to swap engines with a V6 owner if they want

I'm the exact opposite coming from a 1UZ 4Runner. Looking forward to that sweet fuel economy 8-)

weird. v6 is strong as an ox with more power n torque , and will out live a D4D any day. 10 -20% more fuel, sure, no biggie from where I sit (and i do a shitload of k's and touring).

Ironic the article says people have moved to the "tougher" D4D. I beg to differ! If it weren't for the heart of it being prone to injury (injectors, fuel pumps, waterpumps and fuel sensitivity) then yep perhaps.

Everyones hell bent on the TD's though so i suppose it makes sense in that respect.

Haha. I'm leaving my v6 for a nice fuel efficient diesel.

If you can mate, make sure you're not over thinking the "fuel savings" , most of my mates with d4d's frankly get simiiliar figures to me, some worse.

Horses for courses, i nearly bought a d4d, but just saying the whole "fuel efficiency" thing is over stated in peoiples mindsets when choosing cars.

I tow a lot and carry heaps everyday so I keep it pretty high in the revs to get up hills and stuff. I've borrowed my mates d4d for a day and I was a lot lighter on the throttle because there was more low end tourque.

Sorry for getting off topic but I have notice a lot of the newer luxs you see are diesel

yeah towing the torque spread of the d4d will win (even though it has less actual torque and power than the 1grfe).

YOu auto 5spd or manual 5spd in your v6?

They've deleted the manual v6 altogether but kept the auto 5spd v6 (which is wise, the auto is extremely well matched to the auto and always makes use of where the v6 makes its torque and power very well ... whereas manual obviously is different ballgame).

That's a shame

As maxx said I'm over the diesel, I drive a V6 as a daily work car and much prefer it over the diesel!!

maybe they are making room for somthing big.

Now that i have a work car i dont care about fuel consumption.

All i want is a V8 diesel option in the Hilux range as i have come from ported turbo Rotary's so at least the gauge doesnt move when you step on the pedal  .

My wallet loves filling up with the D4D.

My last lux was a 3l turbo diesel when i bought this one the sales man automaticaly figured i would want another diesel ....hell no seriously you pay more at purchase you service twice as often and diesel most of the time is not any cheaper than petrol (and you have to stand out in the pissing rain most of the time to fill up ) add in lil things like turbo problems and injectors and is it really worth the extra coin and hassle .There are that many electrical components in both engines now you cant really say one is better than the other for water crossings .

I had both in all the different variants manual/auto! I average about 200-250 k's a day believe me the diesel has the edge in all departments! I also think the 4 speed works well in the d4d I found the 5 speed v6 always hunting for the right gear.in saying this I change my vehicles about every two years so longevity isn't a real issue.

Interesting feedback...
I have a v6 manual. Wish it was an auto. Really tired of moving off a set of lights with 1.7t of boat on the back gently easing in to first. Have towed the same boat in the bosses 200 series v8 twin turbo diesel auto and absolutely loved it.

I drive diesels at work from 3.0L utes to 8.0L trucks to a 30L V10 bi-turbo MAN marine diesel pushing 50ft of west coaster DSV.

I have no regret owning the petty. Apart from a slight ticking noise at around 1900 - 2200rpm they are a great engine that has always got the job done :-)

Having said that, man I wish the v8 diesel was an option for the lux!!

You will never ever see a V8 diesel in a hilux. There's no V8 diesel option to compete with in an equiv. Ranger/BT-50/DMAX etc and the price point would see it competing with the 76/79 series
